Managed to get this Vindicator mostly finished last night. Took me four coats of pink to get it done – four! I still need to highlight it, will do 50/50 emperor’s children pink and ceramite white for highlights on the pink and just use grey on the black. My previous technique was to paint the model and use pink horror as a basecoat, then wash the entire model with badab black and then go over and pick out the shadows with emperor’s children. As pink doesn’t like going over black this would take two coats and would be time consuming along with a waste of paint. So I did emperor’s children straight over pink horror and then washed in the recesses; the Chaos Marine on the left I did this too while the Chaos Marine on the right is the one I completely washed. I think the Marine on the left has a smoother paint job, though I need to tidy up the face a bit more. I’ll also get some highlights added on them too, hopefully that should finish them off.

Hi it’s Corben again Today I want to tell you about my tank I have built. My dad gave me a basilisk tank for me to convert into an ork looted vehicle. A piece of my tank was missing, so somebody sent me a part that I needed all the way from Africa. My dad gave me a few bits to add on to make it look funky. My dad helped me to do the tricky bits like clipping the top armour off and adding the end of the barrel. My dad has arranged me to have a session with the manager of games workshop so he can teach me how to paint it. It is 8th birthday in 3 weeks and I am hoping to get more orks. Corben (Big shout out to Da Masta Cheef for sending the bottom of chimera chassis all the way from America! lol. Also, big shout out to Ed, the manager of GW stoke who’s agreed to do a masterclass session on painting vehicles, it turns out that he’s a bit of a vehicle painting expert!)

Codices are coming thick and fast these days. In the space of eight months Games Workshop has managed to update a large portion of their available armies and those armies all badly need an update, well except for Chaos Daemons who got a White Dwarf update, but still this was a short term fix. To remind you here is the releases: October – Chaos Space Marines January – Dark Angels March – Chaos Daemons April – Tau June – Eldar Games Workshop hasn’t released codices as quickly as this. Usually three are released per year and already in 2013 we have four brand spankin’ new books. Is this codex release a good or bad thing? The new codex releases bring older armies up to date and create a more level playing field. This means players of these armies will get new stuff and be able to match the more updated armies. The player is certainly a happy bunny and of course so is Games Workshop when people are splashing the cash on a range which probably doesn’t see as many sales as other ranges. Having all these codices come close together can create some issues; Games Workshop has massively increased the price levels of their product, which to be frank is bordering on silly.

In my earlier miniature painting service project Eldar Fire Prism , there was the challenge of tinting transparent plastic parts for the Fire Prism cockpit and crystals. I wanted to create a yellow tint base on my colour design for the Fire Prism. After much research and experiment, I am going to show you how to tint transparent plastic cockpit canopy. I used Tamiya Enamel Paint, clear yellow paint. To dilute the Enamel paint, Enamel thinner is needed. The more dilute the Enamel paint is diluted, the lighted the tint will be. Mix the Enamel paint and thinner accordingly to the level of lightness needed. Test and practice it on some transparent sprue section first before starting on the actual transparent parts. To start, paint the Enamel paint in quick strokes in a consistent same direction. Do not go over the painted section again, as this will create more brush strokes texture as the Enamel paint is drying up.

Done these bad boys yesterday. Used Kromlech shoulder pads and heads and then took the normal CSM heavy bolter and removed the barrel and ammo feed. Then added daemon head for the barrel and some electrical cables for details etc. Will be finishing the Vindicator tonight; got to highlight the pink and dry brush the flesh some more.

Let me start by saying that this post is intentionally patronising. I’m also pretty sure that anyone reading this is unlikely to be part of the problem but frankly I just want to vent some frustration. Since the Tau codex was announced I’ve been on the look out for models on eBay to bulk up my existing force on the cheap. So far I’ve managed to get an old battleforce for £45 and a dozen kroot for £10. Obviously I bought the kroot first but the battleforce kroot will soon be going up on eBay. Other than that I’ve struggled. I’ve kept a search going for “Tau” for a few weeks now and I’m amazed by what I’m seeing. Several items go for far in excess of their actual value, new from GW. To me the point of eBay is to save some cash so it frustrates me when people are morons and bid more than something is worth

At the weekend I was cutting up some guitar wire to make some personal touches to my Vindicators or Sonicators as I call them. I was using a pair of sharp scissors to cut through the wire and instead cut my finger.Not only am I a noob for doing this school boy slice and dice error, I am actually an ultra noob as I have cut myself three times! The third I didn’t realise until today when I removed the plaster. I’m like Edward Scissorhands or something! Has anyone else got any hobby injuiries? Spill the beans and share, I don’t want to feel like a total hobby noob on my own!

For years now I have been collecting and painting high quality resin buildings for some kind of medieval/fantasy gaming board. Now the project is taking shape and I have begun working on The Port of Gierburg. This first part describes how I made a water section usable not only for the port but also for piratey boarding actions. Foreword Water effects are one of the more difficult techniques it seems. I have read a lot about all types of water effects for tabletop/modelling. There’s a lot of talk about different resins, bubbles, stink, bending and breaking, etc. etc. Stu’s reports did not neccessarily motivate me to tackle the issue either, despite the results looking great .

The History of the Horus Heresy – A panel with Graham McNeil, Alan Bligh, Dan Abnett and Alan Merrett. The seminar focused on how the Horus Heresy story was developed and how it really was quite by accident that even got started. Chapter approved early 1988 Alan Merritt told how the first mention of the Horus Heresy happened because the Chapter Approved book because they needed to fill a spot on the page.
