Bay Area Open: My Thoughts

Hello everyone! I hadn’t even planned to go to this until the last possible minute, when Mags and Snake Eyes offered me a spot in the car for the great trip north. I’m really glad I went! Game one was Dawn of War, Annihilation against a Descent of Angels list backed up by two Baal Predators. I thought I was in trouble when my opponent, Jon Machado (possibly one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met), got nearly all of his units from reserve on turn 2. His failed catastrophically; his Vanguard Veterans mishapped and died, while I got to place his honor guard due to a mishap and put them in dangerous terrain on his board edge. He lost two and they failed their leadership and ran off the board. After that it was pretty much just mopping up, the poor guy lost 1/3 of his army to Deep Strike mishaps! Game two was against a really nicely painted Space Wolves army that included Njal (how I would come to hate that character!). The mission was Capture and Control on Spearhead. We traded punches with our Drop Pods for 5 turns and ended up with a draw. Njal wasn’t all that big of a factor offensively, but his Psychic Hood (or whatever it’s called) was an absolute thorn in my side. Had the game ended on turn 5 it would have been a win for me, but it just ended up as a heartbreaker of a draw
