IG Leviathan Painting – Basecoated

IG Leviathan Painting – Basecoated

I took delivery of the Leviathan last night, now with its first bit of paint with the base coating done courtesy of Dodge, a local gamer buddy of mine. Now its back with me I get to start the detailing, and eventually weathering, though I’m not sure how much of that I’ll get done ahead of April’s Campaign weekend! The Leviathan will get my usual edge highlighting treatment, the statues will

Goal Achieved! Month Three of IC Hobby Challenge!

Goal Achieved! Month Three of IC Hobby Challenge!

Month three is not even over and I have already finished my Monthly commitment for the Independent Character hobby challenge! In case you are counting, that is three for three! This is a big deal to me because last time I tried this challenge, I posted for two months, failed to make either commitment and then got sidetracked playing my Grey (Green) Knights.

The trend of new codices

The trend of new codices

Codices are being released thick and fast lately; CSM hit back in October while Dark Angels were the start of the year followed by Daemons start of March. Tau are on their way and the release I believe is April time. First and foremost, it is good that G.W are getting new codices released quickly. This makes for a more even, fair and balanced game. Also makes no sense having army books many, many years old and not having them updated. Surely G.W would want to sell all it’s products? Anyway, new codices, they are very different from the ’5th ed power codices’ which we had been seeing in the past and released quarterly. The physical book is very different; you now get hardback books with full colour art.

Thinking about 3rd party products

Thinking about 3rd party products

Ok, I’ve been all over the map with my articles lately, so expect some more repeats soon, I’m working on one about the Astral Claws chapter organisation now, along with a post of some of my own personal army fluff. Expect another article about my Death Guard too, along with a post on making zombies/cultists. This update is about a few 3rd party products I’m eyeing. I wanted to write about this after my post on hobby malaise, because honestly, 3rd party and out of production bits are some of the main reasons I enjoy building armies. For my Astral Claws I went primarily to eBay for out of production tanks and minis, and supplemented with some Forge World shoulder pads and IC’s. For my CSM I have 2 Blight Drones and a Daemon Prince converted from an Inquisitor model, who’s supposed to be Mortarion. There’s also my Land Raider Proteus with them. I haven’t found any worthwhile ‘Nid parts. Color scheme may change a bit For my Dark Angels, I bought the Chapterhouse Angels of Death doors and put them on my Land Raider Crusader.

Target Sighted Tournament Report – 3x1500pts – The Outpost

Target Sighted Tournament Report – 3x1500pts – The Outpost

My highlight – more on this later. Target Sighted was a 3 game, 1500pt singles 40K tournament held at The Outpost in Sheffield. As I discussed yesterday the custom scenarios were a little open to abuse but what worried me more was that there were something like 18 players and I’d seen a couple of Daemons and Necrons power lists that I really didn’t fancy facing. Matt was his usual miserable self about playing those sorts of lists too. Frankly, I felt certain I’d end up facing at least one of them so was fairly philosophical about it. I’ll cover my games in three separate posts because all 3 (perhaps not game 2) were interesting and worth exploring further than I could do in a single post. The important thing is that Matt actually managed to win the tournament out right. Not only was he the only person to win all three games but he also got Bloodiest General netting him a total of £40 store credit! Now normally I’d be saying he was lucky, played some easy opponents or otherwise didn’t deserve his victory but sadly I can’t say any of that. In his first game he played another GK player who’d got paladins, a dreadknight, etc. Matt tabled him.

Dark Angels Unit Reviews – Special Characters

Dark Angels Unit Reviews – Special Characters

In the spirit of Blog Wars I thought I’d cover the Special Characters in more detail and go over what they can offer to your army. Some are far better than others but with the exception of one they’re all pretty useful. Here goes: Azrael He’s a bit of an enigma really. At first you think he’s awesome because you can take both Deathwing and Ravenwing as troops for about half the number of points it’d cost to include Sammael and Belial for the same result. Then you start to write a list and realise that he doesn’t play well with others in that he can’t join either DW or RW. This means you need to spend points on a squad for him. Sure you can stick him in a tactical squad for cheapest but that’s somewhat wasting his abilities. Anyway, I’ll get back to that. For now let’s look at what he offers
