Discussion: fall of the imperium

Discussion: fall of the imperium

I’ve been getting bored of 40k lately, well before 5th come out. I think I’ve found what the problem is; the Imperium. Up until start of August I had the following armies; Blood Angels x 2, Grey Knights, Necrons and Dark Eldar.

Realm of Battle Board – Completed!

Realm of Battle Board – Completed!

So this is the continuation of the previous WIP post for the Realm of Battle Board I was working on. I will pick up right where the last post left off in order to have continuity! So having dry brushed and completed the rocky terrain and broken earth, I took some Dheneb stone and Ogryn Flesh wash and painted/washed the skulls that were recessed into the board.

The Double Dread Weekender

The Double Dread Weekender

So the missus is away for the weekend seeing some friends so that to me spells a weekend of gaming! I’ve roped in Matt, Jamie and Dave for this weekender and here’s the plan. Saturday we head down to Warhammer World in Nottingham for some 40K doubles then Sunday they all pitch up at my house for some Dreadfleet. Sunday is pretty self-explanatory. Matt got Dreadfleet for Christmas and we’ve had a couple of games of it. Really enjoying it so far so pretty pleased that we’re getting some more time to play it. Matt and I will be attending the GW Doubles in June so we thought we should get some ideas for what armies to take. Matt has BA, GK and Orks at his disposal (he sold his Necrons) and I’ve got my SW, Tau and DE. We’ve already got some great ideas for combinations but we figured we’d try out a few different things and see what works well.

Working with an Airbrush

Working with an Airbrush

An airbrush is very popular among hobbyists. Working with an airbrush is not only fun but will also save you a lot of time. An airbrush might not be very popular when it comes to painting your miniatures, by miniatures I mean 28mm or 32mm figures, as you can’t work on fine details, however, you can always use it for basecoat and for shading. Before you start working with an airbrush you need to get one for yourself. There are many different airbrush manufacturers and they are all more or less good. Beginners should not pay much attention on quality of an airbrush, as their first goal is to learn how to use it. There are professional airbrushes that cost more than you can imagine. There are also a few different types of airbrush. They all work on the same principle, although they might differ one from the other

You Will be Exterminated!

You Will be Exterminated!

Yes, yes, I know. That’s a Dalek quote but I thought it would work just as well for Necrons. Hi there! My name is Tom, a.ka. Monster Rain and Magilla Gurilla has been kind enough to ask for my contributions to this fine blog. I have been playing Warhammer 40,000 for nearly 5 years (give or take) and have played a few different armies but I’ve never fallen out of love with my first: Necrons. From the first time I picked up the Big Gray Book (I started in Fourth Edition) I liked the way the Necrons looked and their background story as being evil undead/robots bent on destroying all life really appealed to me, probably due to the fact that I was working a second job in the retail sector at the time. I had no idea about the game rules at that point so I didn’t realize at first that I had picked one of the more overpowered armies available! Well, Fifth Edition came along and changed all that soon enough. That’s when I decided to expand my collection to Space Marines and later, Chaos. Even as I played these other armies, though, I kept being drawn back to the Necrons

Fluff Discussion: “There are no Wolves on Fenris”

Fluff Discussion: “There are no Wolves on Fenris”

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers from the Horus Heresy novels “A Thousand Sons” and “Prospero Burns”. Read at your own peril. A phrase that is repeated over and over throughout these novels is “There are no Wolves on Fenris”. To a fan of 40k fluff and someone who considers the Space Wolves to be his favorite (False Emperor worshiping) Marine Legion/Chapter this made me scratch my head a bit. There are no Wolves on Fenris? Then…what’s with all the Wolves? Leman Russ had Freki and Geri, his twin Fenrisian Wolves. During his Test of Morkai, Ragnar Blackmane killed a giant Fenrisian Wolf. Some sources say it was blackmaned, others white, but it was a big ass Wolf, whatever the color. The Space Wolves to this day go into battle accompanied by Wolves! They don their pelts, wear their teeth.

Discussion: Grey Knights codex review – troops and everything else!

Seems there is only two troop and fast attack choices for Grey Knights and only a few different heavy support choices I thought I’d just throw them in altogether. The other parts of the review can be found here: Grey Knights codex review – HQ

Foray into 40k – Grey Knight Beginnings

Foray into 40k – Grey Knight Beginnings

The Grey Knight Codex made it into the War Pig Store this week, so I ventured to put together a quick list out of the Grey Knight codex and get in a game against Monkey's Daemon's. I already had one started based on rumors, so quickly checked a few items and was ready to roll. I fielded quite a few different options so I could begin to get a feel for the different items.

Discussion: Chaos Space Marines as Space Wolves – what the?

Discussion: Chaos Space Marines as Space Wolves – what the?

I’ve been trying to selling my CSM army over the last couple of weeks as I no longer player it. I still love the background of Chaos Space Marines and my own traitor legion; the Iron Warriors. I’ve sold about half the army but I’ve still got all CSM infantry, people have said why not Space Wolves? I really don’t like using other armies codexes for others just because they’re weak, it’s a bit lame if you ask me and jumping on the better codex bandwagon.
