GMM Studios – Rime of the Ancient Marienburger

GMM Studios – Rime of the Ancient Marienburger

GMM Studios posted up shots of the finished Rime of the Ancient Marienburger Empire army for Adepticon, and all I can say is wow. An amazing piece of work, with a display board that isn’t really a display board any more. The entire army is themed to crew a single ship, the Sea Bride, which is under attack from a Kraken. The level of detail is a sight to behold. Amazing work, and well worth a look. There’s also a lot more pictures here on Dakkadakka.

Dark Angels – Musing on Adepticon lists…

Dark Angels – Musing on Adepticon lists…

The army marches steadily towards completion! I need to take some pics of the now-finished terminators, but for now here’s a quick snap of the army-in-progress from earlier this past weekend that I neglected to post before: The scout squads are nearly done as well, a few more touch-ups and the detail work on banners and shoulder pads and they’ll be good to go:

Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster arrives!

Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster arrives!

Darn it, I had things to do this week. Guess they won’t be getting done any time soon! Heh. In reality I’m going to be setting this aside until I get the Dark Angels done for Adepticon. I did crack it open and give everything a once-over and thus far I’m relatively pleased. The plastic used on the miniatures feels a little bit sub-par compared to what I’m used to from GW but that’s to be expected. I’ll do a more in depth review of the game contents at some point in the future – I am excited to start building the models, but there’s just too much else to do first! I did flip through the rule book and the game concept seems to be pretty interesting. The tiles that come with the game are also going to be doing double duty in our sci-fi RPG campaigns! Definitely some cool maps.

Dark Angels – Nephilim Fighter painted

Dark Angels – Nephilim Fighter painted

Got quite a bit of hobby time in over the weekend, and dived in to the Dark Angels – still sorting out the army list for Adepticon, and it seems as thought I ended up painting several things that I’m not going to be taking out there with me after all… Argh! The Nephilim fighter is a case in point. I knew as soon as I saw the model that I had to build and paint one, it was just too cool not to! However, it turns out the rules and points for it are a little underwhelming – the armament is a little too light to effectively deal with opposing flyers (other than the single twin-linked lascannon), and at 180 points it’s pretty darn expensive.

Road to Adepticon 2013 – Choosing an army

Road to Adepticon 2013 – Choosing an army

It’s been a whirlwind in Real Life(tm) of late, as we head into the final stretch of a major upgrade at work. Oof. That’s got me thinking about vacation plans, and one of the things on the horizon is Adepticon 2013 ! Now, let’s be frank. I haven’t played in a tournament since 3rd edition so I’m under no illusions as to how it’s going to go, but based on what I saw at Feast of Blades there’s plenty of fun to be had provided you have a good attitude about it all! Looking over the events scheduled for the Adepticon weekend it also looks like there’s plenty of other, more narrative-based events to do on the rest of the days (i.e. after I’m eliminated on the first day of the tournament), which is my preferred style of gaming! I’d toyed with the idea of doing a Chaos Marine army for the event, but ended up settling on an army that I’m much more familiar and comfortable with… That’s right – The Imperial Guard! Heck, the blog’s called Mordian7th so my foray into the tournament scene really ought to utilize the army closest to my heart. I’m going to be trying out a list over the weekend that I’ve hammered out with the assistance of a couple fellow bloggers , we’ll see how it goes! Here’s the current list: HQ Company Command Squad – 230 points Evin Eldro (Creed) Voxcaster Medic Standard Bearer Meltagun 2x Bodyguards ELITES Psyker Battle Squad – 90 points Overseer 7 Psykers Brother Nicodemus (Guardsman Marbo) – 65 points TROOPS Veterans Squad 1:1 – 95 points Grenade Launcher Missile Launcher Voxcaster Veterans Squad 1:2 – 97 points Sergeant w/ Bolt Pistol Grenade Launcher Missile Launcher Voxcaster Veterans Squad 1:3 – 97 points Sergeant w/ Bolt Pistol Grenade Launcher Missile Launcher Voxcaster Veterans Squad 2:1 – 135 points Sergeant w/ Power Axe, Plasma Pistol 3x Plasma Guns Voxcaster FAST ATTACK Rough Riders – 155 points Captain Hilts (Mogul Kamir) 2x Flamers 7x Hunting Lances Vendetta Assault Carrier – 130 points HEAVY SUPPORT Leman Russ Vanquisher – 180 points Dozer Blade Leman Russ Executioner – 230 points Plasma Cannon Sponsons Hydra Flak Battery – 150 points 2x Charybdis Launchers (Hydra Flak Tank) DEDICATED TRANSPORTS Chimera – 90 points Heavy Stubber Dozer Blade Chimera – 80 points Dozer Blade Chimera – 80 points Dozer Blade TOTAL – 1849 points One of the nice things about this army is that it’s all purchased, built and a goodly chunk of it is painted already: It’s definitely at odds with my usual lists, which invariably feature all sorts of units that are woefully inefficient for their points cost (notably my beloved Ogryns), and I was honestly surprised at how much I could cram into an 1850 list. 56 infantry, ten cavalry, 7 tanks and a flyer! …Of course, that list presupposes I can actually FIT it all into my P.A.C.K Air . Might be I have to swap in more costly units, just to cut down on how much has to make the trip. Hah! I would certainly appreciate comments and critiques of the list – pictures to follow after the gameon Saturday!

Due to Popular Demand: MORE KILLZONE cards!

Due to Popular Demand: MORE KILLZONE cards!

Extra! Extra! Due to popular demand Brian was kind enough to let me know that he has in his possession a bunch of extra Special Operaitons: KILLZONE tokens and cards, as reviewed here a few weeks ago . They are quite literally hot off the press and are on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you were one of the many Adepticon 2012 attendees who couldn’t purchase the tokens or cards due to initial doubt, financial insecurities or if you simply couldn’t get in line (Seriously, the tokens vanished Friday morning; the cards were soon to follow) to purchase these KILLZONE supplements.. well, I guess you can do it now. Information about the cards, tokens and the various sets + how to ORDER Here But hurry up! Even though Brian considers shipping dozens upon dozens of packages to be an enjoyable part of the hobby I doubt that he’s willing to do it forever.
