6th Edition 40K – You’re Doing It Wrong! (maybe) – Characters

6th Edition 40K – You’re Doing It Wrong! (maybe) – Characters

We’ve all done it. When you play a game with your mates you either both assume a rule stayed the same in 6th or else one of you is sure you’ve read it and the other doesn’t question it. Not such a big deal in friendly games but can lead to problems at tournaments. You end up making your battle plans based on those assumed rules and it’s only when you execute your strategy that your opponent goes “hang on, you can’t do that”. This is partly why I like going to tournaments. I can’t remember a time when I got through an entire tournament without having to look something up. One point that’s worth making here is that some things are FAQ’d and people aren’t up-to-date with them. Keeping abreast of the rules is key to tournament play. Before any tournament I always read through the latest FAQs of the rulebook and my army’s codex. I also do my best to keep an eye on all the other FAQs, which comes in handy when I referee at Blog Wars.

2/25/13: Reinventing the CSM Codex to Run Myself Over

2/25/13: Reinventing the CSM Codex to Run Myself Over

Hey guys! A week without a post! Sorry to say I haven’t had a lot of time to paint, though that doesn’t mean when I have picked up a brush, it hasn’t been pure gold! Since this shot, I’ve gotten 2 wights and a zombie finished. Should have the team done, minus basing, by tomorrow, if not tonight. You can also see a little WIP on my Chaos Lord. I’ve been playing more with the CSM codex, so I picked up a unit I figure will go nicely with a lord. That’s right, Warp Talons! First off, their deep strike-blind rule is pretty meh, especially with the fact that you can’t assault off the deep strike. Possibly two squads, one on foot and one deep striking, could work…hmmm…. Anyways, I wanted to build a competitive Alpha Legion list so I can play it in more tournaments and have something finished I can kick around. The big unit, though, is: Chaos Lord with Mark of Tzeentch, Sigil of Corruption, Jump Pack, and the Murder Sword. 5 Warp Talons with Gift of Mutation and Mark of Tzeentch It gives me a nice 3+/3++ on the lord, and a 3+/4++ on the Talons

Dark Angels Unit Reviews – Special Characters

Dark Angels Unit Reviews – Special Characters

In the spirit of Blog Wars I thought I’d cover the Special Characters in more detail and go over what they can offer to your army. Some are far better than others but with the exception of one they’re all pretty useful. Here goes: Azrael He’s a bit of an enigma really. At first you think he’s awesome because you can take both Deathwing and Ravenwing as troops for about half the number of points it’d cost to include Sammael and Belial for the same result. Then you start to write a list and realise that he doesn’t play well with others in that he can’t join either DW or RW. This means you need to spend points on a squad for him. Sure you can stick him in a tactical squad for cheapest but that’s somewhat wasting his abilities. Anyway, I’ll get back to that. For now let’s look at what he offers

Army Update – Gatling Guns / Progress at Last!

Army Update – Gatling Guns / Progress at Last!

Excuse the not so brilliant picture, but at last I’ve finished updating one(!) unit of Gatling Guns, rebasing and improving on my highlighting. Just the rest of the army to do…. it should be quicker here on in now I know what I’m doing though! I’ll post up some decent photo’s when I’ve got a chance and some daylight! Compare these to the original unit HERE.

Path of the Tyrant Pt 1, Inspiration

Path of the Tyrant Pt 1, Inspiration

Maybe it’s just me, but when I see the Tyrant’s logo, I want to smash xenos scum. Last year, I had a moment of inspiration. I decided that I needed to either build a pre-heresy army, a new CSM force to use as my undivided army, or an additional powered armor army in addition to my CSM and Dark Angels. The reason I was only considering powered armour was that I had a few dozen marines worth of bits, so I had the core of the army already. Dopey the Lion isn't as inspiring

Battle Brothers Game 5 – Titanic Fenrisians vs. CSM/Daemons

Battle Brothers Game 5 – Titanic Fenrisians vs. CSM/Daemons

We were convinced our final game would involve a lot of flyers but to our pleasant surprise we were met by Siap and Onno from the Netherlands who’s Pus’R'us list was a beautifully themed nurgle army. Siap asked me to say this was our toughest, most challenging game but I’ll let you decide! Here’s what they were taking (from their list): Typhus Possessed 2x 5 Plaguemarines Epidemius 5 Beasts of Nurgle 20 plaguebearers 9 nurglings The central idea behind this list is that Epidemius is constantly keeping count of the casualties to feed his Tally of Pestilence. This gradually makes the army better and better the more kills they get. Battle Report This time we’d be playing Big Guns Never Tire (4 objectives) on Dawn of War which would make our dreadknights scoring! Everything in their army was high toughness though so there was potential both getting bogged down in combat pretty easily. We’d placed our objectives on opposite flanks to try and split up the daemons as they came in. Siap and Onno got first turn, Epidemius arrived by deep strike surrounded by plaguebearers and the rest of the army moved up to meet us in the middle. This allowed us to avoid using a teleport from one of the dreadknights and get into combat with Typhus straight away. We hoped to be able to beat him in a challenge and quickly take both First Blood and Slay the Warlord. Once again though the dice weren't in our favour. Despite getting three wounds through Onno managed to pass all 3 on 5+ and then managed to make the dreadknight flee the combat with a single wound remaining.

Dark Angels – Adepticon Army (v1) Painted!

Dark Angels – Adepticon Army (v1) Painted!

The final push happened last night and the 1850 list I’ve been working towards has been completed! I still need to take shots of a few of the individual units (assault marines and vindicator), but I did snap a few pics of the army laid out on the (admittedly boring) display board: So far so good! 16 terminators, 21 marines and 10 scouts, a Vindicator and the Nephilim. Not bad for a month’s worth of work…

Dark Angels – Musing on Adepticon lists…

Dark Angels – Musing on Adepticon lists…

The army marches steadily towards completion! I need to take some pics of the now-finished terminators, but for now here’s a quick snap of the army-in-progress from earlier this past weekend that I neglected to post before: The scout squads are nearly done as well, a few more touch-ups and the detail work on banners and shoulder pads and they’ll be good to go:
