Conversion or real model for tournaments?

Conversion or real model for tournaments?

Had an interesting conversation last night at the Vine Inn Gaming Club; was about conversion models for existing models i.e Carnifex-Tervigon conversion. Generally in tournaments you need the actual model so no proxies or counts as etc and if an actual model doesn’t exist i.e Tyranid Harpy then conversions are fine as long as they are suitable representation. Now what happens when an existing model that wasn’t previously released i.e Tervigon and people did a crap load of conversions i.e from Carnifex model? The Tervigon model has been out over a year now and is more than enough time for people to replace their conversions if they want to. There’s some some big differences between the Tervigon model and Carnifex model, one of those differences is the sheer size of the model (Tervigon is as high as a Trygon’s chin) and comes on a large oval base. I guess you could put the conversion on the correct base though still you have the size difference. Personally I think if the model exists then no conversions should be allowed in tournaments, there’s just too much varying factors and you can see allowing conversions of existing models is just like opening a can of worms. What are your thoughts on conversions for existing models when being used in tournaments?

Dominus Armored Siege Bombard

Dominus Armored Siege Bombard

A guest blog by SoCal’s greatest converter of 40K models. From Greg Teeuwen: In several IA books, this particular tank is mentioned, but there are no images of it. I'm a big arty/template player, and I love blowing stuff up, so this particular tank appealed to me.

RIP Jovian Chronicles: A Bevy of (Not) Doms…

“Doesn't it look like a Kondoh-type Rik Dom?” Marc-Alex Vezina, creator of Jovian said to me in an email. The year was 199- something. (Do keep that in mind when you see the paint jobs, please, I was still finding my way) 1996? '95? Doesn't matter. I had originally struck up an email conversation with him through their fanzine, Mecha Press, beginning a relationship that would eventually get

…Gravis is’nt very good at drawing… …on the other hand, Praetorian fans may forgive me for this. These awful sketches are shortly to be turned into a much more lovely 3D design by a far more talented artist, which in turn will be printed, cast and then

Hurricane Mortarion…..

Hurricane Mortarion…..

For those of you who haven't read his statline and abilities by now, Mortarion, in-game, can pretty much kill an entire standard 2000 point army by himself, with room for afters (providing you never, ever roll a 1). All of the Primarchs, in fact, are ludicrously powerful (and should be), not to mention ludicrously priced (despite preexisting competition)
