Gaming Withdrawl – How bad do you get it?

Gaming Withdrawl – How bad do you get it?

Lately, real life has really taken a toll on my hobby. As I wandered the morning blog posts feeling rather sorry for myself, I thought this might make a slightly odd but possibly interesting post. I’ve been so snowed under with work of late that I haven’t gotten to lift a brush in a couple of weeks. I have been gaming, just, but for me hobby is my relaxation, it’s like nerd yoga. If I don’t get to paint for a few days, I start to twitch. After a couple of weeks, I’m ready to stab someone. I wonder, am I just particularly irritable, or does the gaming world in general suffer from gaming/hobby withdraw of one form or another if denied the use of dice or brush for protracted periods of time? Tell. Tell Dr. Saturday…

Conversion or real model for tournaments?

Conversion or real model for tournaments?

Had an interesting conversation last night at the Vine Inn Gaming Club; was about conversion models for existing models i.e Carnifex-Tervigon conversion. Generally in tournaments you need the actual model so no proxies or counts as etc and if an actual model doesn’t exist i.e Tyranid Harpy then conversions are fine as long as they are suitable representation. Now what happens when an existing model that wasn’t previously released i.e Tervigon and people did a crap load of conversions i.e from Carnifex model? The Tervigon model has been out over a year now and is more than enough time for people to replace their conversions if they want to. There’s some some big differences between the Tervigon model and Carnifex model, one of those differences is the sheer size of the model (Tervigon is as high as a Trygon’s chin) and comes on a large oval base. I guess you could put the conversion on the correct base though still you have the size difference. Personally I think if the model exists then no conversions should be allowed in tournaments, there’s just too much varying factors and you can see allowing conversions of existing models is just like opening a can of worms. What are your thoughts on conversions for existing models when being used in tournaments?

Blog Wars 5 Update – Maunsfeld Gaming has Closed!

Blog Wars 5 Update – Maunsfeld Gaming has Closed!

You may have already seen this but Maunsfeld Gaming (the shop formerly known as Maelstrom Games and the venue of the first four Blog Wars) has now gone into receivership. I received an email from the venue this lunchtime to say: Hi there I’m sorry to have to say this, but Maunsfeld Gaming is now closed for the foreseeable future. Maunsfeld Gaming is going into liquidation shortly; the company is not insolvent – there’s enough assets to cover any debts – but the longer it carries on, the more debts will accumulate and it will achieve critical mass at some point. With the attendance falling, organisers cancelling events, terrain being stolen, staff leaving, not being able to stock Games Workshop products in the store and the quite breathtaking and totally unjustified vitriol on the internet from some quarters, it seems the venue is no longer wanted by most. I know this is a major disappointment for those of you that have a booked in event at the mill or attend on club nights, but I have no alternative but to call an end to it…………… ………….I hope you all understand why this has happened and that it’s not what I or our staff wanted. I wanted to sell the company, perhaps even the assets alone, so that someone can keep it going, but nobody seems to want to take it on, so that’s that. May I take this opportunity to thank all of you that have held events at the mill, or attended the club nights, over the past few years; you have been superb and I hope you have all enjoyed the facilities we put so much effort and time (and money) in to provide.

Tournament Organisers – I think you need to add this to your Players Packs

Found this online this morning can't remember where from now – think it was Table Top Gaming – personally I think it would solve a lot of problems if was included along with registration forms in any wargaming tournament pack.

High Elf army book rumours

High Elf army book rumours

Interesting set of rumours about the upcoming High Elf book on Hero’s Gaming Blog couple of the other posts there about the pictures that slipped out and the authors thoughts about which of those rumours are likely to be true. If only High Elf characters were this scary and brutal in reality… If the rumours are true then I am most definately looking forward to the new book and I have always found this blogs analysis of various armys etc to be very good so its well worth a read.
