11/13/12: This Week in Painting!

11/13/12: This Week in Painting!

Hey guys! Ugh, another week without a post! I was extremely busy last week, and everytime I wanted to pick up a brush, life and school got in the way! A paper or two, a couple dates, work, but fear not, I’ve got work to report on! Just a quick walkthrough of what I’m hoping to accomplish here this week: From left to right: Festus the Dark Apostle. After finishing the first Festus model, I decided he’d make an excellent Dark Apostle model for a unit of Nurgle Cultists! I replaced his backpack with a toxic barrel, and with a little sculpting and cutting, fit the corpses from his backpack into it. The Nurgling is there too, ready to pack more foul objects into the vat! The Tomb King for my slowing growing Tomb Kings army arrived! I’ve already got the base for him built, plan is to paint him and the chariot seperately, and just glue him in when its all finished! Should be a sweet model, I can’t wait! We’re going to skip Abaddon for now, he’s a secondary project and, while it would be nice to get him done, its not necessary. Darren MorcFadden: Quarterback, connoisseur of fine squigs, lady’s man, Star Player. Its about time I get some paint on this model, on my 1-7 Orcland Raiders Blood Bowl Team, this orc has 34 Star Player Points and a whole slew of skills! While the rest of the team was failing, he was racking up completions, and even has a casualty to his name! He’ll be playing against a Dark Elf team this week but, coupled with Squash, his Goblin receiver, I’m hoping for a couple of touchdowns! He’s got a 50k Gold bounty out for his head though, so I’ve gotta be careful! And a little commission for a member of the local Pathfinder group, an old pewter elven ranger from Reaper. I usually work the day the group meets and, after a little chatting and showing off my stuff, one of the guys wanted his personal miniature for their campaign painted up. He should be a nice break from Games Workshop models and shouldn’t take more than a couple hours to get through! Alrighty, next week I’ve got no classes, so I’m hoping to get a lot of painting done that week. My roommate and I are planning on rolling through Borderlands 2, but I should have plenty of time to get through my old backlog of projects and some podcasts I’ve been neglecting the last couple of weeks! Finished: Festus the Leechlord, Ogres’ Ironblaster, and Spurs that Jingle, Jangle, Jingle…wait..what?

Hey guys! So, as promised, I have another blogpost for the day! Sorry for the lack of posts, like I said, I’ve been pretty busy the last week or so. First up is Festus the Leechlord. I’d been debating on picking this model when he came up, and my boss said he’d commission me to do him, as he was planning on running him in a squad of 60 Khorne Chaos Marauders! Ouch! About 5 hours into him, lots of fun! I actually picked up another to use as a Dark Apostle, so expect him soon! Sorry some of the pictures are a little blurry, guess I was a little shaky while taking those… Also finished was the second Ogre Kingdoms Ironblaster for the other owner of the shop I work at. Really happy with the pair of them, lemme see if I can find a picture of the other one… Huh, don’t seem to have a picture of the other Ironblaster. Here’s a Stonehorn instead, from the same army! Also played around a little bit with my Ork Stompa. Wasn’t sure if I was going to paint him and sell him or just sell him, but I’m thinking I’ll do a little weathering practice on him and then let him go to a home that’ll get to use him! Lastly, for everyone who’d followed the Facebook page, you got to see me work on my Halloween Costume. If not, well you shan’t miss out! I decided to go as the Courier from one of my favorite games, Fallout: New Vegas! Ratty 50’s prospector clothes and a Pip-Boy, not too difficult, right? The Pip-Boy was actually pretty easy to do and, though it didn’t survive the night, it played its role: being really fucking heavy! Anyone guess what it is? That’s right, it’s an alarm clock.

Tutorial: Vibrant Rusting Technique

Tutorial: Vibrant Rusting Technique

Hey guys! Wait, what is this? A new tutorial? Get outta here! No, you read that right! This is one I’ve been wanting to do for a while, and I’ve gotten pretty positive feedback from the style, so I figured it was time to rock this guy out! This rusting technique is perfect for accent coloring to a piece, as well as complimenting a darker piece with a bright eye-catching color. Materials Needed Orange Weathering Powder (I use Forge World’s Orange Rust) A dark and light metallic color, such as Leadbelcher and Runefang Steel A tissue or paper towel Step 1: Coat the desired area in your dark metallic color (in this case, Leadbelcher). Step 2: With your Weathering Powder, mix it together with a little water until it makes a paste. Then brush the Powder paste onto the area. Its alright if it’s a little thick. Step 3: Using your tissue, begin to wipe away the weathering powder, focusing on the raised areas, as the rust would chip off these areas first as the object is smashed around.

Gaming: How Extra Life Went!

Gaming: How Extra Life Went!

Hey guys! I’d meant to post this guy up yesterday, but I’m still kinda retuning my brain after being up for over 24 hours! First off, I’d just like to say thank you to everyone who supported us through the event. We raised almost $600 total for the Children’s Miracle Hospital, which I’m extremely pumped for. They’re a great cause and the more help we can give them, the better! First off, I still had to work on Saturday, so about 8 hours of the event I spent behind the counter selling Magic Cards and whatever else, though I did get a couple games in with my Krenko goblins! The first gaming event we had though was a Warhammer Fantasy Tournament. 6 Players showed up and, from the looks of it, had a great time! Our local DM and Board Game guru came by and ran a game of Arkham Horror. Last I’d heard, they had defeated the nasty Cthulhu-monster and saved the world…for now! I actually managed to get a game of 40k in too! First time playing the new Chaos Marines codex, and I have to say, its going to take some getting used to! First off, Giant Chaos Spawn rolled up as a Maulerfiend for the game. He was a beast, and if he hadn’t gotten mauled by a Hive Tyrant, he would have caused a lot of trouble against the Nids. Cultists are fun, but I should have deployed them in a spot where they could have shot more. They ended up in CC with the Hive Tyrant after the rest of my army was killed. This won’t end well… The biggest thing is the Champion of Chaos rule. All sergeant upgrades get the CoC rule, meaning they have to issue and accept challenges.

Its Time: Extra Life 24 Hour Gaming Charity Event

Its Time: Extra Life 24 Hour Gaming Charity Event

Hey guys! So its been a week since I posted, but its been a busy week overall. Schoolwork stepped it up a notch last week, but I’ve been busy with some other things as well. Regardless, it all comes down to this point. My friends Ryan, Nate, and myself managed to raise $273 for the Children’s Miracle Hospital, so I just have to say thank you to everyone who supported us as we strove for our goal. Remember, you can still donate to the cause! Here’s the link to my page! Extra Life

Finished: 24 Kt Necron Wave

Finished: 24 Kt Necron Wave

Hey guys! So this was a crazy busy weekend. The Return to Ravnica prerelease on Saturday turned work into a madhouse; we had 25 people turn out for it. We ended up with an uneven number of people for FNM on Friday, so I got to play in that for the first time ever, which was kinda cool. Before FNM, though, we had a little downtime, so I got pictures of Tom’s completed Bling Necrons! An interesting commission, it consisted of: 3 Ghost Arks 6 Tomb Blades Command/Annihilation Barge The biggest problem with the commission was figuring out how to get a nice, smooth gold without driving myself insane hand painting every Necron on the Ghost Arks. Enter Rustoleum Gold Spray. My roommate had a can, and I’d been thinking about getting can anyways, so I test sprayed it on a spare Warrior. It was perfect! After that, it was just a case of spraying, washing, and drybrushing to get the bulk of the group done. A little red for flavor, and we have a prominent, stand-out army! Also got a little work done on some my culists. Cant wait for the new Codex! Alrighty, this week Smells Like Wargaming is doing a little charity painting for one of our favorite clients, Magilla Gurilla. If you haven’t heard about his event, check out the link here! I personally think the Benevolence Ball is a great idea and does a lot of good for the community

For Sale: Chaos Just in Time for the Codex!

For Sale: Chaos Just in Time for the Codex!

Hey guys! Quick update, I’ll be finishing the 24 kt Necrons tomorrow, and should be starting on Magilla’s Charity Malifaux crew very soon, so stay tuned for that! I’m planning on doing a little bit of “spring cleaning” (I know, its almost October) just to clear up some space on my shelf for some new and exciting projects. Thinking some of the Imperial Guard will end up there, amongst some other pieces. But, for now, I’ll settle on two big hitters. 1) Giant Chaos Spawn: eBay Link here 2) Abaddon the Despoiler: eBay Link here

Finished: Jibberjaw, Giant Chaos Spawn

Finished: Jibberjaw, Giant Chaos Spawn

Hey guys! First up, I gotta say thank you to all of my followers and readers. We just hit 150 followers the other day, and you all have no idea what that means to me. When I started two years ago, I was worried the blog would fall on blind eyes, but obviously I was wrong! So I sat down with the intent of finishing this model the other day, and I realized that all he needed was a little paint on his teeth and he was finished! This was the last picture I’d left you guys with, and boy, this was a while ago. From that to this: That’s what I’m talking about! There’s a ton of little details on this model, I’ll let the other pictures do the talking! I’m extremely happy with the eyes, they have a deep glowing of something more devious behind them. Sores, pustules, rashes, extra eyes, everything you could ever wish for with a Chaos Spawn model. If you didn’t notice, he’s on two bases. There’s 4 magnets on each base, which allow him to function in both Fantasy and 40k with no problems whatever. You should get that checked out soon… I’m a squeamish guy when it comes to diseases in the first place, so the research on this model was unsettling to say the least. I don’t recommend it to anyone, but hey, you make sacrifices for your art sometimes! In case you’re interested, he’ll be hitting eBay in the next day or so, so you’ll be able to add this nasty monstrosity to your Chaos collection for either Fantasy or 40k! Alrighty, this weekend is dedicated to 24kt Necrons, followed by a charity Malifaux crew coming up! I also got some pictures of what I worked on last week, I need to throw them up here! Granesh
