I have been hard at work trying to make some viable Chaos Daemons lists lately. As I mentioned in this post
One of the great joys of wargaming is the endless time you spend with pen and paper list building, at least it was until I discovered that I could spend even greater amounts of time using various electronic sources – although pen and paper still remain the starting point. There are a range of options available for gamers looking for help building their lists, particularly if they (like me) want to build lists from sourcebooks they dont yet own.
I have been thinking of running this list:
Runefang is still several weeks away, the last weekend of April to be exact, but I'm already getting to work on preparing my Dwarfs for their return assault on the NZ WHFB Tournament scene.
As Daemons are primarily an assault army then you really want to look at the fast moving units, after all you do not want slow asses lumbering up the field and getting shot to pieces i.e Bloodletters. To start off the Speed Daemons list I am going to throw in a Bloodthirster. Anything which has wings is going to be fast plus the Bloodthirster is an awesome ass kicker. I will throw on two greater rewards, which with good rolling can make the Bloodthirster into a flying big ass devil. I fancy some Daemon Princes in the list for anti air support, the are expensive and the lash reward is random, but it is all Daemons have got. Two of these will do nicely and I'll take on them daemonic flight, warp forged armour & 2 x greater rewards. At the moment I am in double FOC territory, I have the option of taking a Keeper of Secrets (anything slaanesh is fast) which will add another monstrous creature into the army or use the points to inject into other areas of the army. I think I will go the Keeper route and take two greater rewards along with mastery level 2 psyker, hopefully can get invisibility on the telepathy table. Onto fast attack then seems this list is all about being fast.
I am back with another Ravenwing list and this time I have decided to keep it pure Dark Angels. I know Guard allies are good, but I just want to keep it all in one codex this time. Instead of doing the usual waffle of how and why I have chosen X unit, I am just going to make up the list and go from there: Dark Angels ‘Ravenwing’ – 2,000 points HQ Sammael Librarian – mastery level 2, bike & auspex Ravenwing Command Squad – standard of devastation & apothecary Troops 5 x Ravenwing Attack Squad w/ Attack Bike – 2 x meltaguns – Attack Bike w/ multi melta 5 x Ravenwing Attack Squad w/ Attack Bike – 2 x meltaguns – Attack Bike w/ multi melta 5 x Ravenwing Attack Squad w/ Attack Bike – 2 x meltaguns – Attack Bike w/ multi melta 5 x Ravenwing Attack Squad w/ Attack Bike – 2 x plasma guns – Attack Bike w/ multi melta 5 x Ravenwing Attack Squad w/ Attack Bike – 2 x plasma guns – Attack Bike w/ multi melta 5 x Ravenwing Attack Squad w/ Attack Bike – 2 x plasma guns – Attack Bike w/ multi melta 5 x Tactical Marines – missile launcher Aegis Defence Line – quad gun Total: 1,999 Sammy and the Libby partner up with the RCS; this gives the squad more wounds as undoubtedly this squad will be target number 1. RCS has the devastation banner which allows all units within 12″ to re-roll failed morale tests and all units within 3″ to count their boltguns as salvo 2/4; extremely handy when bikes have twin-linked boltguns. It’s unlikely to happen, but a possibility, but if all bikes were in range of the banner then you’re talking round about 150 bolter shots! I have added the apothecary in to give the unit some extra staying power, though I think 30 points for a 5+ feel no pain roll is pretty damn expensive. I have given the Libby mastery level 2 as had points spare, though the invisibility power from the telepathy discipline is very nice, but it's a big 'if' you get it.
I’ve always had a boner for bikes, I mean who doesn’t like an 8ft tall armour giant riding a bike firing a rocket launcher? Then come along Dark Angels who helped me boner raise my trouser tent even higher. Before moving onto the list, bikes got pretty awesome in 6th ed as the bonus toughness now actually counts as the models base toughness, so to instagib a multi wound biker model you need S10 or an instant death weapon. Bikes also ignore terrain (though take dangerous terrain tests) ,cannot be pinned have the hammer of wrath, relentless and jink special rule. Hammer of wrath and jink are very nice, particularly for small units which can be easily wiped out. Oh yeah, they can move damn fast; turbo boost 24″. Naturally this list is going to have bikes, though I am going to add a few bits of cool kit and one or two combos
. First we need Sammael, without this expensive geezer there’s no Ravenwing. I am putting Sammy on his bike so his av14 Speeder doesn’t get picked on. Keep in mind that Sammy has a plasma cannon, twin-linked bolter and an AP2 power sword, which is master crafted.
