Games Workshop is getting rid of all non-core games. GW is cutting all metal production as they switch over to fine cast, and have let it be known that once stocks of Epic, BFG, Necromunda, Warmaster, Mordheim and Inquisitor run out, then they are gone for good. Multiple people have confirmed this with GW’s Customer Service and warehouse staff. Collectors Range It has also been confirmed that the Fantasy and 40k Collectors ranges have been discontinued and once stock runs out they will no longer be available.

Most people will have probably seen them by now but yesterday GW posted some new FAQs for the current collection of codices. It might be coincidence but it seems that they always release them the week before I go to one of their doubles events. Anyway, as usual here’s a rundown of the most significant changes. Nothing too exciting except for the Tau thing at the bottom. Rulebook Stats can be modified to 0 except Initiative which can’t go below 1. Wounds from blast markers need to be kept separate as they’re capable of hitting models that the firer can’t see. Makes sense I suppose as a high explosive round could still hit those guys round the corner of the building with shrapnel. Split fire can’t be used to blow up a vehicle for the rest of the squad to fire on the occupants.

You may have already seen this but Maunsfeld Gaming (the shop formerly known as Maelstrom Games and the venue of the first four Blog Wars) has now gone into receivership. I received an email from the venue this lunchtime to say: Hi there I’m sorry to have to say this, but Maunsfeld Gaming is now closed for the foreseeable future. Maunsfeld Gaming is going into liquidation shortly; the company is not insolvent – there’s enough assets to cover any debts – but the longer it carries on, the more debts will accumulate and it will achieve critical mass at some point. With the attendance falling, organisers cancelling events, terrain being stolen, staff leaving, not being able to stock Games Workshop products in the store and the quite breathtaking and totally unjustified vitriol on the internet from some quarters, it seems the venue is no longer wanted by most. I know this is a major disappointment for those of you that have a booked in event at the mill or attend on club nights, but I have no alternative but to call an end to it…………… ………….I hope you all understand why this has happened and that it’s not what I or our staff wanted. I wanted to sell the company, perhaps even the assets alone, so that someone can keep it going, but nobody seems to want to take it on, so that’s that. May I take this opportunity to thank all of you that have held events at the mill, or attended the club nights, over the past few years; you have been superb and I hope you have all enjoyed the facilities we put so much effort and time (and money) in to provide.

When the worlds of man were faced with the threat of destruction at the hands of the Dark Legion and the avarice of their own warring superpowers, it was the Brotherhood who saved them. It was the Brotherhood that had grown from a small movement of the disenfranchised into an organization more powerful than any other before it. Within its ranks existed the righteousness and the hope of a race on the brink of extinction. In that dark and Godless time, salvation was borne on the shoulders of one man and the desperate pleas of a race, weary of the constant slaughter, received hope. Humanity rallied under the banner of the charismatic Durand, the followers of the Light united humanity as they had never been before and drove back the Darkness. Today, the Brotherhood is represented across the solar system, from Mercury to the distant Pluto. Wherever the light of the Brotherhood falls, the battle against the Darkness continues. At least that is how it’s supposed to be. Even today, a thousand plus years later, the Brotherhood represents an all governing, unearthly power that is personified by one man. The Cardinal is the spiritual leader of the solar system.

Games Workshop We were thinking, the day after the advance order notification for the Tau Empire went up, about the composition of the new Tau Empire codex. Fortunately the boys and girls over at Games Workshop have been kind enough to let us know which units fall in which parts of the army. This means we can look at which units compete with each other. Historically the Elite and Heavy Support choices in the Tau Empire codex were overloaded with good options. It looks like things aren’t going to change much! HQ: Ethereals Characters Commander XV8s Cadre Fireblades Bodyguard XV8s We’re fingers crossed that the Fireblade will be available as an HQ choice and that the 1+ restriction on XV8 commanders will have been lifted. Whether or not this happens is another thing entirely. The HQ slots seems relatively clear and the complete absence of Psykers no doubt made it much easier to keep this section slim. In White Dwarf Jeremy, the author of the new codex, points out that the Tau have a lot of kit. So fingers cross there’ll be some new toys to customise our models with. It’s also worth noting that Blacksun filters and Multitrackers come as standard in the new codex on the four XV suit variants

With the Tau release under two weeks away I’m getting pretty excited. I’m aware that’s pretty sad for a nearly 29 year old but then you guys are reading a 40K blog so … meh. Anyway, the new pictures show us a much better perpsective of the broadside and the new flyers. Broadsides The broadsides are rumoured to be downgraded to S8 AP1. However, the latest pic seems to show the broadside holding a rather large railgun that to me doesn’t look twin-linked. Perhaps they can still take the S10 AP1 version but lose twin-linkage in the process? Eitherway the model looks awesome and a lot bulkier than it’s predecessor. It’s certainly on a bigger base! The question is will anyone replace their existing models with one?

– Autarchs take Paths. These represent completed paths they have walked and are tied to the various aspects. By taking a path you make the respective aspect warrior a troop choice (the exception are reapers who just become scoring) – Overall point cost reduction (guardians see it the most, aspect warriors see it the least, but are instead a fair margin better with only a minor cost decrease for two of the schools). – new special rule that influence how howling banshees interact in combat. It’s current iteration really makes them feel like glass cannons that are amazing at what they’re designed to do. -Seer councils have brotherhood of psykers (the farseers still cast their own abilities in addition, but two farseers together cast more than 2 farseers separately) – in general, aspect warriors are hyper focused and hyper successful if used properly – No new aspect – 2 new flyers – lots of units get access to skyfire – new tank (on falcon chasis) – Avatar is buffed a lot – Two new special characters – exarchs are all really good in duels in different ways – farseers are still awesome psykers – warlocks improve deny the witch. – falcon/wave serpent point reduction – way to make some of the craftworld specific lists – additional rules for allying with dark eldar – expanded fluff on the war in heaven -New Eldar “large tank” is being worked on (not the same as the new falcon variant) -Guardian/Storm Guardian combo plastic box -Guardian jetbikes/Shining Spear combo box Above is taken from Faeit 212 & BoLS

Inspired by some mail banter this morning, I’ve decided to post up some thoughts on movement trays. I don’t think I’ve covered this before, but if I have, sure, what the hell, it’s not like it’ll be on the news. Anyway. When I were a lad movement trays were a bit of cardboard painted green and that was that. Times moved on, and a few years back I thought I was spoiled with being able to order custom laser- cut trays, which I would then add some basing to fit with my army theme. A bit of work, but they added to the visual appeal of the army no end. Movement tray from Litko with basing materials added. These are still a good option depending on how detailed you want your army trays to be. I’ve seen these just painted black to match the sides of bases, and they looked great. There’s a pile of companies that do this
