Hey Mercer, Don’t know if you remember me. I sent you a question about the necron command barge. I’m one of those “ninja” readers who read your blog quite often but rarely leave any comments. Sorry for that. Well, this time I’m thinking about an Iron Warriors “almost fluffy” list. I mean, I like Iron Warriors a lot (in fact that’s the reason I started reading your blog) and I like fluffy armies but I’m not doing it completely fluffy because I understand that there are better tactical options sometimes (specially with those Nurgle Obliterators!). I would like you and the community to have a look at my list and give me some thoughts, and by the way ask your opinions about some matters regarding the CSM Codex. Before getting to the list let me tell you something: I don’t like MSU very much. I know that probably is more versatile but I don’t like so many and so small units.
Wow, just finished painting the Vendetta, how’s about that then! No time for pictures as I’m setting off shortly for Throne of Skulls this weekend, the reason for the haste in getting it finished. My army is’nt the most competitive I dont suppose, but its got a little bit of everything – but only one Leman Russ, and thats an Eradicator. I’ve basicly always taken either, or both a vanilla Russ
Yes, I’ve put a big smile face to annoy spam haters
. I get asked from time to time why I don’t take any other units and do I get bored of taking the same stuff all the time. Answering that question with another question; why I like spam. Spam Reason One Firstly, when making a army list I’ll always take the stuff what works and try and build the most badass lists I can. Some people call this ‘net listing’, while in one way this is right it’s also wrong. Really there’s no such thing as a net list, all a net list is is the more or less same list which a lot of people have used. The reason people use ‘net lists’ (I use those words loosely) is because only so many units work in the codex and only so many units mesh together. So while my lists appear to be a net list, in true terms they are not. I’ve sat with my codex and excel spreadsheet and spent time building lists and looking how the army meshes together.
See that paint station in the pic, the one covered in Wave Serpents? Well thats another one of my unfinished armies
It doesn’t matter what I do since returning to the hobby at the tail end of last year (after being away since the mid 90s) I just can’t seem to finish anything, heres why: Absence makes the heart grow fonder – As I mentioned above I’ve been away from the hobby for the best part of 15 years, and this is one of the reasons. At the tail end of last year I was walking past GW in Burton-On-Trent and just out of curiosity I decided to have a quick look, more out of nostalgia than genuine interest, the quick look turned into a quick game of WHFB with the store staff and the game turned into me leaving the store with a Dwarf Army book and Battalion in a shiny GW plastic bag. The following weekend I returned to GW and bought paints and brushes to paint my Dwarfs. I needed a rulebook so I went to get one but instead got the Island of Blood set and a bunch of High Elves and Skaven boxes. Looking through the rulebook I saw Beastmen, now they were not around when I was younger so I thought why not and got some Beastmen. Now this is where the problem started, in the 15 years I was away from hobby a fair amount of stuff got released and when I got back into it I suffered from wanting a bit of everything and a bit of everything isn’t the best way to get that brand new army finished. In this case my enthusiasm for everything with a warhammer was my undoing and probably why I have 6000pts of unpainted warhammer stuff sat in my spare room. I’m not that materialistic (Ask Mercer, he has seen what I drive lol) but I got so embroiled in the new models and my return to hobby that I spent an awful lot of money on things I didn’t need. The ghost of Eldar past – I moved house last year and during the move I found a shoebox containing my 2nd Edition Eldar, way back then this army was badass, I only lost a couple of times with them and due to my rejuvenated love of all things GW I decided to get the new codex.
