Captain Sicarius of the Ultramarines

Captain Sicarius of the Ultramarines

With all the kickstarter excitement and work, I managed to steal some time to complete a single miniature commissioned miniature painting. He is none other than Captain Sicarius of the Space Marine. Though I don’t collect Space Marine, I still do enjoy painting Space Marines… that awesome feel and power and its a Space Marine! Captain Sicarius is made of GW’s finecast. With the last few commissioned Miniature Painting Service projects, I still feel that finecast is still not a perfect cast. There are always minor hole bubbles in the cast. Though some are minor which can be ignored, but those in obvious position will still need some green stuff patching. Well, if comparing to other makes of miniature, there are others which produces better quality. Captain Sicarius was painted as an Ultramarine as requested. The base blue was painted with Citadel Ultramarine blue, followed by a diluted wash of an old range of Citadel midnight blue

In it for the models or the game?

In it for the models or the game?

Games Workshop has declared that is it a company that produces high quality models and that the games Games Workshop create come second to the models. Even during production the models are designed first and then rules come after. Now we all got into 40k partly because of the attraction to models, after all Games Workshop produce some fine stuff. The question is do you play 40k just to look at pretty models or do you like playing toy soldiers? For myself I got into 40k as I like the game; the models are sweet, but I just love playing toy soldiers and making pew pew noises. What attracts me to 40k is the tactics side thinking where to move units and what to shoot at etc. In some ways 40k is like playing chess with Space Marines and trying to outwit my opponent or beat them down to skill is what excites me. There’s nothing more than a good hard fought battle which gets me going. Also the little child inside me just loves to play with guns and lazor beams. Reminds of days when playing with my M.A.S.K toys and Venom would attack Boulder Hill! Dastardly Miles Mayhem! The social part of 40k I really enjoy too, as I am quite a social and talkative person.

The Alpha Legiondary Journey Part 1: Evaluating Codex: Space Marines

The Alpha Legiondary Journey Part 1: Evaluating Codex: Space Marines

Welcome back to the second article and the continuation of ” The Alpha Legiondary Journey “. Hopefully you have read and enjoyed Part I where I listed some of the goals and concepts that I’m shooting for with this series and as to why I will not be using Codex: Chaos Space Marines as the core for my Alpha Legion list. Evaluating Codex: Space Marines The Space Marines have been out for quite a while now and everyone and their mother are familiar with their pros and cons, their strengths and weaknesses. The tricky part is evaluating said characteristics and figuring out what can be applied to the Alpha Legion doctrine – what works and what does not. There is a caveat, however: Supposedly the 6th Edition version of Codex: Space Marines will be hitting the shelves by the end of the year, so this article may not be relevant for long. I doubt, however, that GW will tinker with their favorite poster child too much. Pros : Tons of incredibly flexible and customizable options, Combat Squads mimics the division of small, Alpha Legion cells, Combat Tactics can be a great bait-and-switch mechanic, many options to play with USR abilities such as Infiltrate, Move Through Cover, Scout as well as the option of having your entire list Outflank. Because of Combat Squads and Chapter Tactics, there is a lot of strategy and trickery to consider before and during deployment, really allowing you to analyze the situation and change the way your army is split and deployed. Cons : Really.. not a whole lot
