There is only the Emperor, and he is our shield and protector. Battle cry of the Crimson Fist Yesterday I talked about how DIYing my Marines was not working for me, and I delved back into my childhood to pick a Chapter I was already really into and it came down to the Crimson Fists. Beaten and bloody after the devestation of the Rynn’s World incident they are in the midst of rebuilding their chapter. So in this spirit I picked my first 500 points with an aim to not use anything fancy, keeping it to basic models and equipment to represent the sparse surviving equipment available to the chapter, while also making use of unpainted miniatures I already own. Naming characters and squads is one of the more interesting parts of building a list for me, as it changes a bunch of text and toys into little people with their own stories. So here we have Captain Huron Grimm, as I would like to think that the former first sergeant of the 2nd company would have been granted a command of his own following Rynn’s World, so I’m promoting him. The rest of his force will have to get new names however, and considering the Portugese, Greek and Roman origin of many of the official Crimson Fist names I will have a wide pool of available surnames to work from. Picking through the piles of sprues and half built models in my bitz box, I’ve assembled the component parts of the entire force ready to be put together. It’s now just a case of waiting for my next day off, and hoping that the humidity drops off a bit so I can use a spray primer.

Hey guys, Just a quick update! I’ve finally sat down and set up my Facebook Page for Smells Like Wargaming! I’ll be doing more goofy posts, pictures that don’t show up on the blog, and possibly some commission discounts in the future, so what’s it gonna hurt? Click the big ‘LIKE’ button now! I’m still playing with the idea of a Twitter account too, so if I come around with that, I’ll let everyone know! Granesh

So for some time I’ve been wanting something more than a 3×3 piece of Chipboard as a table… Yes the wood looks sort of sand coloured but it really wasn’t what I was after. So I was looking around on Gumtree which is like Craig’s List but here in Australia and came across Custom Terrain who was local to me so I thought I’d see what he can do. Elliott at Custom Terrain has a whole list of different types of tables he’s done and so I emailed through an enquiry about getting a table built for Malifaux. After going back and forth with ideas we came up with the idea of a 3×4 table with the extra 1′ for counters, cards and models out of play. Well I went and picked it up on the Saturday and it was better than I could think. Here are the photos from his competed log : So as you can see the extra foot was split over both sides so you can place what you need either side. He also covered it in Felt do it borders it quite well. So I get it home and want to have a game but Exileed wasn’t available so I placed some of the terrain I have on there and set up a possible game.

Getting into the busy time of the gaming year now, and a period I am definately looking forward to with multiple tournaments heading my way. First up is Horned Rat IV a 2000pt campaign based Warhammer Fantasy tournament on July 2nd/3rd. Two weeks after that its off to Panzershrek X a 2200pt Late War Flames of War doubles tournament, my first ever FOW event. This one also has the added advantage of being held in my hometown. The following week there is FRACAS IV a one-day Mid War 600pt FOW event in Wanganui, and then 2 weeks after that Call to Arms a 2400pt Warhammer Fantasy event. This last one has two fantasy competitions; a standard event and the 12 person campaign event (which I am competing in) based on the Karak Eight Peaks campaign in the March 2011 White Dwarf. All in all it will be a nice way to head into the end of my wargaming season which for me officially finishes in October when cricket starts back up again. My army lists for each event are pretty much set, last weeks Dwarf game was a test of my Call to Arms list. I just have a little bit of painting to go to ensure I’m completely ready for each one.

Hey guys, So as I’m sure you know, this is about the time school finishes the Winter Semester, heralding in the SUMMER! Obviously such a prize wouldn’t be unguarded, and sure enough, finals stand between me and 4 months of nothing but sleeping, 40k, and work. Therefore, Smells Like Wargaming is on a very short break, as most of my paints are going to be packed up here in the next hour or so. Expect me back on Wednesday, where I’ll be finishing up the Tau commission, as well as get a huge chunk of the Word Bearers finished (sorry about that Monster Rain, not quite as quick as last time…) Time to go pack and study for some finals! Granesh

Hey everyone, Just a quick post, I’ll be doing the next part of the Plastic Inquisitorial Henchmen posts tomorrow, so keep an eye out for that! Meanwhile, I’ve been trucking along onto the Tau, as well as my own Smells Like Wargaming Marines. Come to think of it, I need to finish up my own Tau…alas, damn time and schoolwork. First up is the Tau Commission. So far, I’ve finished 3 Piranhas, 2 XV9 Hazard Suits, a Hammerhead, and a Devilfish. I’m waiting on a group of 1/16”X1/32” Rare Earth Magnets to come in to build the Crisis Suits, but I’ll be priming and starting on the Drones and the Smart Missile Systems tomorrow! Also, while I had the picture space set up, I took a shot of my Smells Like Wargaming Marines as they’re finished so far. I really need to get a Left arm for that AoBR dread that’s not a Multi-Melta. I’m really hoping to get a Left combat arm, though a Frag Cannon would be really neat too. Anyways, expect more Tau pictures tomorrow and the following days, and I’ll have the next part of the Plastic Henchmen up tomorrow! Granesh

Yes I know the title doesn’t really suit but it’s all I could come up with on a Sunday morning after not much sleep. That being said I’m proud to let you all know that Wayland Games is running a promotion where you will get a free sprue from Warlord Games . Do get your sprue click on THIS LINK and sign up for both Wayland’s and Warlord’s newsletters and that’s it. When Signing up please try not to use foreign characters as well as it can cause issues with the form and that may stop you getting a sprue. How can you go wrong with free items? Other than that check out everything else that Wayland has to offer you for your wargaming needs . Share and Enjoy:

Hi everyone reading this, After a spell doing hardly anything within the wargaming hobby besides posting on this blog, I have made an effort to sit down and get to painting. The problem is that painting Space Marines can become tedious since it is nearly always the same formula. I’d probably have more fun painting Eldar with all those colourful units, but the only army for me is Space Wolves – always has been and always will be! Well finally I have finished my first GH pack with the last five minis posted below. I apologize for the last two pics which are not level.
