The way I do it is Boltgun metal, then a badab black wash, then drybrushed Mithril Silver. It makes the silver stand out a lot more than straight Mithril Silver.

As for the names, my main influence is Bernard Cornwell's Warlord chronicles, which are about Arthur in the Dark ages, so the names are very welsh/celtic.
