I am sure that the topic has been covered ad-nauseum but here is my opinions. There isn't anything wrong with GW paint other than the pots they put them in. Vallejo Game color mimics the GW line very closely and comes in eye-dropper bottles. You can use craft paints which will be a lot cheaper and you will get more but at a cost of good quality paint. The craft paints tend to be chalkier and the pigments are a lot larger.

You really need to consider what you are painting. Miniatures don't take very much paint and the small bottles will last you a good long time. If you are doing large terrain pieces - craft paint is a good buy.
