Hi all,

I'm new to the world of 40K, and after spending some time checking out the minis, I have decided to play PURE Daemonhunter. Those medievalish looks sold me. Anyhoo here's my 1st 750 pts list, I am trying to find the balance between the shootines and pure CC capabilities, so here we go

HQ:
Grey Knight Brother-Captain w/ NFW & Psycannon = 91 pts

Troops:

Squad Just-Stand-There-And-Let-The-GKs-Do-The-Job #1
5 x ISTs with 1 Vet using Targeter = 70 pts

Squad Just-Stand-There-And-Let-The-GKs-Do-The-Job #2
5 x ISTs with 1 Vet using Targeter = 70 pts

Fast Attack:

Squad Astralis
4 x GKs with 2 Incinerators
1 x Justicar with Teleport Homer
NFWs & Stormbolters
= 180 pts

Squad Camudios
4 x GKs with 2 Incinerators
1 x Justicard With Melta Bombs
NFWs & Stormbolters
= 175 pts

Heavy Support

Purgation Squad Masacres
2 x GKs with 2 Psycannon with NFWs & Stormbolters
1 x Justicar NFW & Stormbolter
= 160 pts

TOTAL = 746 pts

I am using GK Bro-Captain as my HQ because of the Shrouding ability.

The plan is: Join the HQ with the Purgation Squad and shoot the heretics away while GKs DSing here and there.

The problem is: Is there anyway to utilize the IST more (anti-tanks, long range) ? AFAIK they don't have many strong long-range weapons.

Also, I am trying to build an all-around army (ie. good against most armies).

Any input, feedback, critic, and suggestion would very much be appreciated.

Personally, in games of that point size, i'd Max out an Inquisitor Lord for CC rather than field a BC, but either works.

Purgation Squads are useful if you don't have much shooty capability - maybe try an Inquisitor and Retinue for Fire-Support ;
Inquisitor with Psycannon
Gun Servitor with Heavy Bolter x 2
Gun Servitor with Plasma Cannon
Sage or two...

IST's with Melta-Guns can do some tank busting....or 1 metla and 1 plasma per squad - maybe a rhino for transport....
Maybe you could stretch to a dreadnought?

I'd not rely on the Shrouding too much as the average roll is 31.5" and has only ever saved me a handful of wounds.

If you do intend to go with the Deep-Strike option, i know its tempting to max out on special weapons, but higher squad numbers do tend to make the squads more survivable. - they get shot an awful lot.

Tough to do pure GK in 750 points, i have found....usually use them as allies, or take DH with Space Marines. If you are going to try it, then i wish you luck.
NOBODY expects the Holy Inquisition!
Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise....
Our two weapons are fear and surprise... and ruthless efficiency....
Our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...
and an almost fanatical devotion to the Emperor....
Our four... no...
Amongst our weapons... Amongst our weaponry...
are such elements as fear, surprise...

I'll come in again.

Whoops, my bad.

Thanks for the suggestion InquisitorLordMalik, it sheds some light. I decided to bunch up the Gks into one teleporting squad and changed the HQ into a tooled up Inquisitor Lord for shooting. So here's the new list:

HQ:

1 x Ordo Malleus Inquisitor Lord w/ Psycannon @ 75 pts
1 x Sage @ 10 Pts
Laspistol & CC Weapon

3 x Warrior @ 95 Pts
Heavy Bolter Servitor (x2); Plasma Cannon Servitor (x1); Frag
Grenades; Krak Grenades

HQ = 180 pts

Heavy Support:

2 x Grey Knights Purgation Squad @ 110 Pts
Psycannon (x2); Nemesis & Storm Bolter

1 x Grey Knight Justicar @ 51 Pts
Nemesis & Storm Bolter & Targeter

Heavy Support = 161 pts

Fast Attack:

7 x Grey Knights @ 195 Pts
Incinerator (x2); Nemesis & Storm Bolter

1 x Grey Knight Justicar @ 50 Pts
Nemesis & Storm Bolter

Fast Attack = 245 pts

Troops:

5 Inquisitorial Storm Troopers (Troops) 60 Pts
Hellgun (x4); Plasma Gun (x1); Frag Grenades

1 Veteran Stormtrooper @ 20 Pts
Hellgun; Frag Grenades; Targeter

5 Inquisitorial Storm Troopers @ 60 Pts
Hellgun (x4); Plasma Gun (x1); Frag Grenades

1 Veteran Stormtrooper @ 20 Pts
Hellgun; Frag Grenades; Targeter

Troops = 160 pts

Total = 746 pts

My strategy is to provide a firebase consisting of IL covered by Purgation Squad which in turn, covered by the ISTs while my Gks Ds'ing to neutralize any threat.

Feedbacks ? Suggestions ?

I couldn't get my hands on dreads and vehicles right now since the store that I am playing in is still new and they don't have many models yet. I'll be playing against Chaos, Eldar, Tau, and probably Necron.

I think thats a pretty solid all round tactic.....very similar to ideas i use. I did find the lack of anti-tank firepower a slight problem, but i went part of the way to solving that by fielding sentry guns. Its a relatively expensive solution in terms of cash (£14 UK) for each one, but they do add a twin-link lascanon at quite low points. Might be worth a thought ?

I say drop your Vets in the IST squads. Use the left over points to add1 more troop to each squad. Thier guns aren't that strong, and with them you need numbers.

i would suggest getting a 2nd sage, losing a vet sgt so you can have the eqiuvilent of a twin linked plasma cannon is worth it.

give your vets melta guns for anti-tank, you may not want to exchange those incinerator for pyscannons
