Well, this has been my fourth attempt at completing a Warhammer 40K Army, and it seems to have led into a mess just like all the others. I started the hobby with Tau cause they were long ranged and shooty and I liked the models. My first army was a 1200 points Balanced Tau Army, and was rather crudely painted as most kids first armies are.
I ended up getting a job to pay for my hobby and eventually grew out of my old models, I gave them to by little brother (BAD IDEA, he might be family, but a hobo is better then your siblings), and started up a brand new 3000 points Mech Tau Army, it was grand in design and painted Blood Angel Red, in the field of combat my opponents called it the Communist Red Army.
I then joined the United States Air Force, sadly my models had to stay at home till I finished all my training, which took almost a year. In that time I grew away from Warhammer, and most of all from Tau. I picked it back up about a year ago and tried my hand at Space Wolves, seeing as I really liked the Space Wolf Novels. That was more of a small unit then a army, more like 1500 points and I barely painted anything.
Well I moved again, and now I am stationed In Okinawa Japan, I found someone to sell my Space Wolves to because for the longest time I couldn't find anyone to play. So there I was without models and all these rule books.
I then discovered that Tau had been upgraded, I didn't think about my past wasted money with them and dived into my wallet, in two weeks time I had enough models for a small Mobile Army. Yet then the evil entered the room, WoW.
It consumed my soul and for a few hours a day still does, and recently I have grown more angry at my Tau. They sit there on my table dusty and half painted, my scheme was all messed up. I realized after looking at them over time, that even though they are decent models and they are a great army, Tau just aren't for me.
I feel the calling of the Emperor, and although I could try Space Marines again, my calling is to the Guard. I want to march my lines across the fields, moving from cover to cover. I want the Nids and Ork to charge into my fields of fire and be silenced by my wall of lascannons and shells. I want to serve him in all his glory.
Of course this leaves me at a bit of a problem, I have 3 Devilfish, 1 Hammerhead, 3 Firewarriors Squads, 1 Stealth Suit Squad and 4 Crisis Suits. Yet no one on this damn island wants to buy it, all the people I know that play already have their full armies and of course are broke. I figure I could just box it up when my Guard get here, but one things for sure I will not send it to my brother.
P.S. I also want to make a Balanced Guard Army (0.o, that's right I said Balanced)
I hope people are having fun.
Welcome back to the Imperium of man! That lovely little place where you don't matter and have a better chance of dying to the claws of massive beast or having your mind melted by a psychic alien then you do reaching the age of thirty. The guard is a great choice, I suggest conscripts they are mobile cover and can allow your real soldiers to move up into better firing positions. Close order drill is a must for those who want to march in lines, but beware templates. And regarding a balanced guard list, well you'd be hard pressed to make a cheesy guard list.
In an Imperium of a million worlds, what is the death of one world in the cause of purity?
He who allows the alien to live,
shares its crime of existence.
Alright this seems to be rather sad, but I logged on this morning and I got a private message about someone with a IG army and considering trading. I attempted to reply to the private message, and I kept getting Database Errors with my private messaging systems.
So if you are out there, I can't access my message system to even get your name, just put some pictures in here so I can see what you got, and I'll try to get picks of mine as well.
I hope people are having fun.
Yeah, the Databse arrors have been floating around the last few days, residue from site fixes
Nonetheless, you are moving away from Tau.... and into the domains of Mankind. Awesome!
I can understand the Space Marines are calling your wallet, same with Imp Guard. Why not both? That's the awesome thing about the Imperium- you can ally from 4 Different books (Marines, Guard, Witch/ Daemon Hunters).
Take some Marines... few Guard Platoons.... some Sisters of Battle, armour pieces from everywhere, cool Inquisitors, some WH Faith and IG footmeat goodness, even Grey Knights for powerful reactive troops (read: many dice) The choice really is yours.
I had the same problem- started an army, couldn't finish before I Lost intrest and wanted different models. Well, you can still satisfy both, and once you get enough, you'll find you can mix and mach, or just take a full army of one specific Army.
Here is a handy link tht explains the Allies rule- very handy.
LINK (Member Created FAQ - Deamonhunters)
In a nutshell- you can never have Imperial Guard and Marines together- it's either one or the other. Marines/Sisters, cool, Guard/ Sisters, cool, but not IG and Marines
You can only have Grey Knights and Marines together if the 'Space Marines' are the base army and allying GKnights, you can't have a 'Daemonhunter Army' with Grey Knights and 'Inducted' Marines.
Good Luck Chief!
