Hello,
I'm new to this forum, so Hi

I started collecting GW minis some time ago, simply cos i liked them so much. Now that I'm done painting them all I also got the rule books and appropriate codices. My problem is that I have a lot of minis and vehicles and don't know which to use - and how to use them efficiently. I you could give me any tips on how you would use the following I'd be very very grateful.

I do read White Dwarf and have playe da few games with friends, so I'm not a complete newbie, but I haven't played with my own army until now

    I have:

    - Emperors Champion

    - Chaplain

    - Grand Master

    - Apothecary

    - Techmarine

    - one full HQ box

    - Culexus, Vindicare, Eversor Assassin

    - 44 Marines with close combat weapons

    - 44 regular marines

    - 30 Initiates

    - 25 Devastators

    - 14 Terminators

    - 3 Bike Marines, 3 Bike Initiates

    - 1 Rhino

    - 1 Whirlwind

    - 1 Dreadnought

    - 1 Land Raider Crusader

    - 1 Land Speeder

    - and quite a few other minis like standard bearers, vet sergeants and such...

... how many points should I go for? How many points does all of this equal to? What do I need to look out for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks,
    Dredd

btw I'm also listed at coolminiornot.com by teh name Dredd, so you can take a look at some of my forces

Well, as a start i recoment the Chaplin and the emporors champion.

Then, decide if you want shoot or combat troops squads so so them make up to squads from them.

this should be nearly 600 points.

How big of a list do you want? You could probaly do over 2500 points with all of that.

I think you'll probably have around 1500, 2000 points army but my best advice is to buy Codex: Armageddon which have the Black Templars army list...

Yeah, ok well we will guide you through this, make a list with a H.Q. a emporors champion and two troops in it, then we will guide you on from there. Remember you have to pay the points for the men first so its 10 X -. Then add the diffrent weapons so its 10 x - + - + - = --.

omg, how can you have that many minis and not play? well, i love troop heavy armies, so id use as many shooty marines as possible and 1 squad in a rhino (for capturing objectives). Land Raider is a must have for larger games. Id put as many Terminators in that as possible, that way youve got a hard hitting asault squad. Im not very good at choosing HQ, so ill leave other people do that. Id definately take the Dreadnought and 1 Devastator Squad. Whirlwind can be very annoying for the enemy. Then, from that base, add men/weapons depending on points avaiable.

First of on want to say that I like your Vindicare Assasin Model.

A Black Templars (BT) army is the one of the best close combat marine armies (along with Blood Angels and Space Wolves). So you should base your force around Assualt and close support.

HQ: other than an Emperors Champ you need a Leader thats good in close combat. I prefer the Chaplain for the point costs.

Troops: This can be a bit tricky with a BT army. You will need at least 1 assualt close combat (CC) squad (probably more). I also like small 6 man bolter squad that have 1 plasma cannon and 1 plasma rifle in them. These help combat enemies whle holding a static postion (like an objective).

Other than that its up to you! Dready's are nice because they can lay down fore as they move with your troops and help out in CC. A Whirlwind is a great unit for the point cost. The BT Jump Pack marines can cause a lot of damage (especially if a couple are armed with storm shields to combat enemy power weapons), but are a bit expensive.

Don't foget to 'pad' each squad with a couple initiates they can really help out in CC. Good Luck!

I think your talking about the standard space marine codex here, I would think that you would have one as it is a must for a marine player.

i think that wat you've got there is a lot of stuff. ur gonna probably gonna wanto do alot of the stuff i do since i mainly play blood angels. wat i do is hav a rhino with a squad and then hav those devastators giv them covering fire while u ride up and tear the enemy 2 pieces. also in the space marin codex it tells how much stuff is so u cn just add it up on paper for a portable army list.

Adam, next time you post something please check it over! I could barely read that post.

Any way, it seems to me for marines to be succesful you need a core of atleast 3 10 man tactical squads, flexible, tough, powerful, and theyy get the job done.

From there I would add in possible assault elements or fire support elements depending on when you needed them and who your enemy is.

I remember something that always confused me on marines when adding up the points when I first started, you dont have to pay for bolters unless its a character, they already come fully equiped, if you give them equipment it just replaces their original weapon(or what ever was in its place). Hope this helped a little
