Hey all,

Now, usually I am not one to complain, but I am SO tired of fielding my painstakingly painted and based army against opponents who all seem to field the "Pewter and Plastic Legion" as I call them. You know, hordes of unpainted miniatures in all of their natural state, many missing parts, limbs, etc. Worse yet, many of them are not even the miniatures they are supposed to represent, ( i.e Necron models to represent Imperial guard, or orks, or whatever). Recently I was playing against someone who didn't even have models, just the bases! I mean really!

I realize that this hobby is expensive, and we all have other time constraints ( and believe me when I say that my time constraints are probably in excess of 90% of the players here), but part of the hobby is taking the time to paint an army of your own making and fielding the army against your fellow gamers. Most of us got into this hobby because we love taking the unformed, unfinished sprues and hunks of metal and crafting them into a beautiful work of playable art. For me at least, being such a crummy general but a decent painter, a lot of the fun is spending down time trading painting tips, getting ideas, and complimenting the other gamers on their originality and artistic quality. I don't expect everyone to field a "White Dwarf" caliber unit ( Lord knows mine aren't), but at least have the respect for the game to assemble and slap some color on them! I think anything less is just disrespectful to the other gamers.

Am I alone on this, or does anyone else feel the same way?

yes this is an endless problem but easily solved <_<
too many people play with unpainted armies...... but let them
everyone knows the dice gods favor painted armies

I myself have never fielded an unpainted army mostly beacuase everyone else i know that plays are really good painters and fielding an unpainted army while providing quick gaming just looks dumb.................. I mean did the emperor make space marines so they could just be grey and pewter and miss a couple limbs? NO!

the painting of an army shows charachter and without this charachter what do you have? nothing but some dude moving little plastic figures around that dont even look like something that would be real or even remotely could be imagined storming a city or the like

I say DOWN WITH UNPAINTED ARMIES AND GO CREATIVITY!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

(and people who get other people to paint there armies are just not right)
When cities burn and armies turn
and flee in disarray,

Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day,

But warriors know it in their marrow when they
die and fall,

It is better to have fought and lost than not have
fought at all.

I think its only acceptable so long your working on painting them.... but at the very least they should be primed.

Yes, I too am a hater of the Non-Painters. One of my "Friends" recently started Tomb Kings(yes I know this is the 40k forum) but being the "Lazy *****" that he is(or she, that is yet to be determined) has only assembled it and is calling it the "Army of the Gray Death" or something of the like.

As for me I have roughly half of my army completly painted, but most of it is primed so am I sorta a Hipocrite(sp?)?

One remedy I might say for this is tell them to go with a paint job that requires little or no stages or what ever to paint, such as my Black Legion. but I do take pride in my Dark Elf army which takes me quite some time to paint a model.

Oh, sorry, I was rambling, I'll stop after this nice story...
It's fantastically exciting in a really boring way.

Hypocrite.
Anyway, I don't mind a lot if the other army is only partially painted or just primed, but what annoys me is when they don't have weapons on the figures, so they show the armless model and say "well, this here is supposed to be a melta-gun, and this here a heavy flame thrower, and this here a bolter". During the battle those weapon assignments tend to change according to the situation arising, so basically the other guy has some 11pt. obliterators running around.

About my army, it is mostly painted but unfinished. I'd rather take some primed but unpainted figures with me rather than badly painted ones.

I think that it is dead sad to have a problem with people that dont have fully painted armies, although i admit that it could get annoying. i think that you SHOULD HAVE A LITTLE PATIENCE, i admit if they dont own the models then that is out of the question, but u cant expect them have their armies painted. I actually find it fun playing with unpainted models.... my mate had a black and white throne of judgement 2 &1/2 weeks before it was released. tht was fun. but i really cant see the problem with unpainted models, non-existant models is different matter. but c'mon what is the problem. oh and wot is defined as painted cus i have finished about 70 space marines and 12 of them have 2 eyes.

Is tht unpainted?

unpaint; where most of the modle is still showing plasic or undercoat

if details like eye's are not painted it's not that bad but at lest have the pride to paint and bace most of the modle. you try to go in to a tonament with an unpainted army. they probable just kick you out.

I dont mind playing against a fellow with an unpainted army just as long as when i play him next week I can see that he has made an effort to start and each subsiquent week I see progress. You cant blame people for not having enough time but most of us have the time in a week to, lets say, add the red coat of paint to one squad of guard or at least spray the entire force with black undercoat. As long as i see my opponent is constantly working away at their army then i have no complaints, no matter how slow they might be.

The people who get right on my wig are thouse who think that its ok to leave an army sprayed and never work at painting it. In my vet evenings their is a guy, lets call him Bob, who started 40k and collecting Tau at the same time as i started playing and collecting Deamonhunters. This was one year ago next month. Now my time is as constraind as the next man, what with my final Degree year, but i have managed to paint the majority of my 2000pt army to a level which i am happy with, and the rest still looks good but not quite ready for varnish. Bob has only managed to spray half his force black, leaving the rest unpainted, and has only added one coat of blue to a single Tau dude. I know refuse to play against him due to the ease at which I win, what with the Dice Gods favouring me and all.
