Hello, i am caught in a pickle that is starting to really frustrate me...for the past couple months, i have been jumping between three armies: csm, loyalist sm, and imperial guard. i really like the guard's ability to use tanks and i love how you can have so many troops, but i don't particularly like painting them...as for space marines, i have always loved them, and they are reliable on the table top, and i love their fluff...chaos has always appealed to me and in my opinion i paint csm better than i do i guard or sm...i am a pretty defensive player, i like to shoot more so than assault, and i am not asking you to decide for me, i am just asking for advice on which to continue with
chaos marines have the chaos gods on their side, but space marines have games workshop on theirs
Well - as a die-hard Guard fan, I would obviously take Guard! Which would make alot of sense as you enjoy shooting. Of course, if you actually want to kill anything with any kind of regularity then you'd be looking at Space Marines. As a kind of happy medium, I would suggest that you go Chaos - it always really helps to have an army that you enjoy painting, and from a playing point of view, you get the serious firepower of the Space Marines in 20 man squads.
Just my thoughts!
I am in the same spot you are mate. What I've been doing is just collecting and painting 500 points at a time. For example, I was collecting CSM for a bit and got about 1k points before I lost interest so I stated getting Tau, got about 500 points then started getting CSM again. If you're short on funds then this could be a problem but my collecting didn't exactly happen over night. I now have at least 500 points in 3 40k armies and 4 WHFB armies.
