Chaos Space Marines
Simple question: Given the choice, which army would you prefer to see dropped across the table from you? Reason(s) can be anything you want - fluff, game mechanics, a good track record, or a long standing feud - but in a fight, whose 'ead do you want to be stompin'?
Two's to kill. Ahh, sweet sweet music.
Space Marines in general are my favored opponents, and until the balance of 40k, both fluffwise and in marketing distribution, is restored (will probably never happen), I will go out of my way to destroy Marine armies. However, amongst Space Marines, I single out Blood Angels most of all. I started 40k in 2nd edition, but didn't become very active in the game until the beginning of 3rd, around the time that the 3rd edition Blood Angels codex came out. As such, they were very popular at the time and there were four Blood Angel players in my gaming circle. It got to the point that I was sick of seeing red armor, and would purposely design armies to wipe them out (despite having gotten along just fine with the players themselves). Actually, now that I think of it, I did not have my current hatred of Marines until those games against the Blood Angels...

Increasing the diversity of the 40k universe through the destruction of Space Marines, one army at a time...
I almost voted Necronians, because they're so soft and crunchy under my chaotic boots...
I then almost voted Eldar for the sheer joy I get out of the concept of a daemon prince killing some warlock with his daemonic beard...
but my vote goes to Imperial Space Marines.
Good balanced opponents who can put up a decent fight. No dirty cheating trickery, but varied enough to be interesting, and most importantly a worthy challenge.
The heresy is still happenin' where I am.

Been here nearly 10 years and still haven't managed 500 posts.
I play against chaos marines most often, so my list is specifically a marine-killer list. Also, at this point I know chaos almost as well as I know my own Tau, so in a game against a random opponent I'd surely do best against chaos.

Voted chaos space marines because there's nothing I love more then a horde of boyz rushing a lash daemon and taking it out in one big violent clash of choppas and a power klaw.
If I had another vote though I might say space marines just because it's always good and fluffy to see orks and marines square off.
"Orks have to be followers of Nurgle! They're green, smell bad, and just want to spread the fun!"
Hmm. as a primarily WH player, I love to see the boys in Blue across from the girls. It's satisfying to hear the SM players gloat a bit about how ubar they are and how much tougher and stronger than me they are...
then watch their faces as the 1st barrage of Divine Guidanced Hflamer / flamer combo backed by 16 bolter rounds plows through their ranks after the 'rickety' 'rolling coffins' let out a squad of 10 girls that chew the squad to smithereens.
Marines are usually a nice, well rounded, balanced foe. Then there's the Blood angels. I too harbor a deep dark disdain for them. not lost to them, but I do like blowing the living snot out of Death Company.
although I must admit that killing Demons is kinda fun as well.
As guard, I can't say I have a favorite opponent. probably SM or CSM again.
The Forces of Chaos are my preferred enemy, whether it be Space Marine or Daemon, my Grey Knights shall purge the filthy heretics.
That, and surprisingly enough chaos players are actually somewhat rare at my store (Not counting the regulars. It gets old fighting the regulars and they hardly play chaos anyway.)
Even in the big Apocalyptic games I have at my local GW store I make a special exception to hunt down the forces of chaos on the field. If one of my fellow Imperials have already deployed to make a go for them or there's a position on the field that would probably serve far better if I deployed there, I'll still keep all my Grey Knights in reserve and send them down or flank march them down there.
Half of the reasons is that it feels like it's a waste for Grey Knights to be killing anything other than Chaos. The other half if that I want to slay all chaos models on the field so my Grey Knights will start killing my own allies.
This preference against Chaos spreads to my radically Inquisitorial Guardsmen as well.
On a minor note, despite the Chaos Daemons Codex being out for so long, I have yet to play a normal game against them. This is probably another reason why.
I like playing Tau, probably because I really like the models, also Fire Warriors make very good Death Company food hehe
That or DE, you know when you see De youre either facing a complete noob who doesnt know how to use their army or a master tactician and youre gonna got an ass kicking.
Then again, who doesnt wanna kill smurfs
