Chaos Space Marines
I’ve always wanted to make a feral human army, lots of thuggish brutes who just love the thrill of conflict.
The Chaos plastic Marauders would be used for the main components in the army’s conversions. I’m kind of going for this sort of look…
But the real question is which codex would best represent this army theme and NO guard is out of the question they are the worst close combat army next to Tau and Space Marines are too well disciplined. There are only two armies suitable for this theme.Chaos Space Marines: Hordes of Marines with Mark Of Khrone rampaging across the field.
-- or --
Orks: Feral and Numerous however some units will be difficult to convert into humans such as Nobs and Grots.
So which list do you think would be best for this theme?
I'd go with Orks, it fits the feral feel better.
for Nobs, find some larger guys. For grots, maybe use night goblins, and paint 'em fleshtone, call them units of feral children or something.
maybe even try mixing ork models with the chaos models, and paint the skin pink or tan rather than green.
I vote Orks. Orks are probably closer to feral humans in terms of stats, as Chaos are more like Space Marines in their approach, in that they have heavy armour, etc, where as Orks go with the ferel, Shoot first, think after approach.
I really need to be painting right now.......
why don't you use the imperial guard codex with doctrines?
Jungle Fighters (maybe?)
it's your decision what you use, it's just a question
EDIT: just read your article to the end and saw that you do not want guards, so forget the idea above.
but it would simply be the most fitting...
answer on your question: use orks

I believe you could do this via Space Marines. Don't use space marines/tac squads. Instead, use scouts as your troop choice as they aren't half bad in close combat and have "base human" WS and BS. They can infiltrate, and pretty much be a very very annoying troop choice for your opponent to deal with. For HQ's you have so many good options that can be converted. I especially like exchanging chapter tactics for fleet (Waagh every turn anyone?) The elites offer an interesting conversion opportunity as well. I imagine sternguard as weapon scavengers with a large collection of dangerous and unusually ammunition/armor.
Oh, and supposedly Calgar was able to rally a bunch of feral humans to defend a world against somesuch xenos, so there is some fluff with feral humans and space marines in battle together.
