I play GKs and they whould be an army
I play GKs and they should be a unit
I do not play GKs and they should be an army
I do not play GKs and they should be a unit
hey guys, i know i'm new around here but i've been a long time poster on a number of other fora, and wanted to hear what your opinion on the subject was:
okay, we all know that the C: DH needs an update, and it has been disucssed a number of times on a number of fora. but one of the biggest controversies that always arises in such discussions is whether the Grey Knights are best represent in the rules and on table tops as an army, or as a single unit that can be accessed by other armies?
so i want to put it to popular vote, and see what you guys think is the best solution to a sticky situation.
Well the new codex for them is said to center much more around the Grey Knights themselves and not so much the =][=
So I expect as an army they will have a lot more neat "Grey Knight" Stuff. Other than everyone just wanting to steal their marines and termies.
I hope they get an assault squad type unit. Grey knights with jump packs? Yes please.

My friend did an amazing drawing of grey knights with jump packs basically falling from the sky and running a bunch of chaos marines through with their force weapons.
Lets go massacre something
I am a sexy shoeless god of war!
I guess they are kind of both now. I have Marines and not a demon hunter codex, but can't I take a unit with my army?
I wish I could use my Assassin still without an Inquisitor and Retinue - they should have their own codex again, but I digress...
I voted for GK as an army, because I play a grey knight army, and would like to seem them as an army instead of some rare smurf unit.

Daemon Hunters Win / Draw / Lost
The problem for Grey Knights is there too good so to have a pure army is extreamly hard pts wise etc.
Grey Knights in the end are ment to be few and chosen so for fluff sakes addding to the GK's would be terrable, however to make them work effectivly as an army they need more options. Also the other fear is "o look some slightly diffrent SM's" theres enough imperial stuff out there without them being there own army really.
I voted keep as unit as you may of guessed and mix them in one codex with Witch hunters and xenos hunters. with the ability to mix and match but more effectivly than current rules but also keep the ability of pure GK army for pureists.

I just can't see pure greyknights being as balanced as the other races. Space marines themselves are essentially exaggerated units that are vulnerable to high strength low-ap and pretty resilient to small-arms. Greyknights are essentially and even MORE exaggerated type of unit with the same vulnerabilities but just increased offensive power. It would be hard to balance them, just like it would be hard to balance 'movie marines' into actual 40k gameplay.
I believe they should have an inquisition book, similar (but not anywhere near the same) as the codex daemons in where various units of witch hunters, grey knights and alien hunters are all available and have a variety of 'core' inquisitorial troopers or SoB to be the bread and butter. They should give enough variety where it's possible to go all out on either 3 of the xenos, but would also allow using a bit of both.
When you look at greyknight fluff, they are specialized warrior unit, dedicated to eliminated daemons. You're average beakie is a generalized warrior. It wouldn't make too much sense to bring an army like pure daemon hunters as a well rounded list meant to go up against anyone. Not that they should only be good at daemons, as that would be a little lopside in game-play, but they should have a more specialized role and used in conjunction with other inquistorial troops if they were to join an actual fighting force. As far as I know, they only use pure GK forces to essentially send right into the eye of terror to fight daemons, or in daemon infested planets, much like alien hunters would be sent into the norn queens or alien infested planets to take care of them.
If an inquisition would have to made that would need to form an actual battalion, it would only make sense that the different factions would join forces to help cover eachothers weaknesses.
