I really like the models for the carnifex and hive tyrant, and want my armies to feature them as much as possible. Would this list be effective? Would it be considered too beardy? It's 1848 points and features 71 models. I also know that the word is properly spelled "nuclear"

HQ:

Thermonuklearpowered HyperTyrant - "Blinky"
Warpblast, Winged, AG +1 Ws, +1 In, TxScs +1 Strength, Ext. Carapace, Enhanced Senses STx2, Exceptional Size - 238

Thermonuklearpowered HyperTyrant - "Edward"
Warpblast, Winged, AG +1 Ws, +1 In, TxScs +1 Strength, Ext. Carapace, STx2, Enhanced Senses, Exceptional Size

Elites:

Lictor Brood - 3 Lictors - 240 points

Troops:

16 Steroid-Scythgaunts -ST, TxScs +1 St, Hive Node - 138

16 Steroid-Scythgaunts -ST, TxScs +1 St, Hive Node - 138

16 Steroid-Scythgaunts -ST, TxScs +1 St, Hive Node - 138

15 Steroid-Scythgaunts -ST, TxScs +1 St, Hive Node - 130

Heavy Support:

Carnifex - Extended Carapace, VCx2 - 195

Carnifex - Extended Carapace, VCx2 - 195

Carnifex - Extended Carapace, VCx2 - 195

Edit - You're right, Uzi. Carelessness on my part, so I've altered the list. It seems like a tyrant with exceptional size is pretty much taboo on these boards, though. At any rate, let me know if this list even works.

I really like the idea of gigantic, lumbering monsters, and I imagine this would be an experimental hivefleet; the hivemind toying with the idea of "intermediate" tyranids, in between monstrous creatures and Bio-titans.

Illegal list:
Speciescount is 5, which means You can't mutate the Tyrants.

How do I count five? Codex page 36, right-hand column, "Force Organisation". Even if You do not field the Elite species in a game, You must keep it in mind when counting the Mutation limits.

Thus Your Species list would have to read:

HQ: Tyrant
E : Unspecified compulsory Elite species
T : Spinegaunts, Deathgaunts
HS: Carnifex

For a total of five species, resulting in invalid Tyrant Mutations.

Uzi, or anyone else with a sense of humor, please take a look at the revised list. Not too many exceptional size lists out there...

Fun, but still illegal...

Take a look at the Chapter Approved Tyranid FAQ and how Lictors are treated for the purposes of Mutation. You can Mutate them, but that would require a list limited to 3 Species...

I don't find ExcSized Tyrants (or Carnifexes) a no-no, it's just that I don't really find them that effective either. Every now and then it's fun to use it to rock Your opponents boat, but I wouldn't field them on a continuous basis... Not because of any perceived unfairness, it's just that I personally find a low Speciescount rather dull. Diversity's what I want!

Ok, ok. Now that this list is (hopefully) legal, and barring the tedium that a list lacking diversity might present, how effective would this list be?

I think the idea of an Exceptional size tyrant is a cool idea..... If only to scared the heck outta your opponent... As for the obvious species/wound count probem...

If guards were taken with the tyrant would these count towards the wound count? If so would this mean that the guard would not be able to be detatched from the tyrant?

I`ve probably misunderstood the rules on this..... would that be legal? <_<

I don`t think I`d choose to do this anyway personally.... 49 pts could be a lot better spent else where...

--- Well, the Lictors alone make it somewhat more surprising than if You had chosen Warriors as Your compulsory Elite... So it can be fun.

As for effectiveness... Could be. I think it would have some problems against mass armies.

You can walk thru seas of Imperial Guards without getting hurt, just hide from their heavy weaponry. Sure, you have 5 TMCs. But if you leave them out in the open for a turn or two, their Ws will drop. Thats bad for a list where you count on the TMCs to bring you victory. As for your gaunts, they are actually pretty solid against IG, and Marines.

Actually, I think he'd be pretty effective, even against swarm armies - he's got 4 decent gaunts squads, his lictors and tyrants can tie up squads pretty well, and those three 'fexes can pump out a total of 12 strength 10 AP 4 hits each, so he can down rhinos, ravengers, wave serpents, and other transports pretty easily. Plus, I think those tyrants are immune to guardsmen, tau (obviously) and most ork attacks in close combat (orks are T4 and St3, right?).

All in all, he can tie up 7-9 squads (depending on how he uses his lictors) for anywhere from 1 to 3 turns, while the 'fexes march in and pound away at armor and heavy weapons squads.
