Chaos Space Marines
What do you reckon? Which Codex allows you to field a farily well-rounded all-comers list in games of 1000pts or less?

It is going to be an army with plenty of versatile units. Armies such as Eldar who have units made for a specific role are too liable to run into counters. I would say SM or CSM. They seem to have the best selection of versatile units.
I am torn between Ip and spacemarines as each has stuff going for them. Space marines in the fact that tough to kill=worth the investment. And Ip being BROKEN
If Slaanesh is the god of the Perverse, why does Nurgle have all the filth?
What is Ip and why are they broken?
The wonderfully different troop types are also bowel-clenchingly expensive, and trying to gear up a Chaos HQ alongside them in a 500pt game is hard. At 1000pts they become a bit of a nightmare to play against, but I still reckon the Smurfs have them licked.
At 500 you're probably only going to need 1 troops choice (if you need 2 then you've a harsh arbitrator), so the Lord (+ PW) and a squad of Plague Marines (w/ Plasma Guns) will do you nicely to start with, then you just need something to hunt tanks.
