Ok, this list includes every single space-marine mini I have. It's not meant to be uber-competitive, I just want to know if it's ok, since I really play tyranids. I just want to try out the marines I've already painted. Since I already put on squad decals , I don't want to change the squad organization either. I'm basically looking for a critique on this list "as is", so to speak.
Also, apart from my tyranids, (about 3000 points worth) and my space marines, the only other minis I own are 4 assassin minis, and a painted grey knight grandmaster, so I don't have any other minis to play with, and I don't want to buy any more either, (unless they're bug minis, but that's beside the point).
HQ: Force Commander: Bionics, Iron Halo, Artificer Armor, Terminator Honors, Master-Crafted power weapon, Bolter/Flamer: 155 points
Elites: Veteran Assault Squad: 6 Assault Marines w/ Terminator Honors, Veteran Sargent w/ mastercrafted powerweapon, meltabombs, and purity seals, all mounted in a rhino w/ searchlight and hunter-killer missle - 299
Elites: Dreadnought w/ heavy flamer, multi-melta (it fits the theme) extra armour
Troops: Tactical Squad - 6 Marines with frag grenades, 1 flamer (and one veteran sargent w/ powerweapon and bolt pistol, purity seals and meltabombs) - 158
Troops: Tactical Squad - 7 Marines with frag grenades, missle launcher and meltagun (and one veteran sargent w/ powerweapon and bolt pistol, purity seals and meltabombs) - 188
Troops: Tactical Squad - 7 Marines with missle launcher and flamer (and one sargent) mounted in rhino - 186
Troops: Tactical Squad - 6 Marines with frag grenades, plasma rifle (and one sargent) mounted in rhino - 168
Heavy: Devastator Squad - 9 Marines, 1 Sargent, 1 Multi-melta, 1 Lascannon, 2 Plasmacannons - 290
Heavy: Landraider w/ pintle mounted stormbolter - 260
EDIT: I forgot to mention, I actually do have one last mini I almost forgot about... it's an unpainted whirlwind. I might want to add it.
OK we will see what we can do.
First point arent Black dragons Cursed founding? what about all their knights etc? Sigh, Ok nilla then:
your Force commander:
I would ditch the bionics and the articifer armour, both are rather pointless, I am also sceptical about the master crafting on the power weapon
Vet assult squad:
again a little skeptical about the MC on the sergents power sword, it would be very usefull to up the numbers in this squad but you seem to be saying this isnt an option I would be tempted to ditch the metla bombs and give the vet sgt a powerfist rather than the power weapon but this would involve butchery.
The rhino - ditch all the stuff you have on it, it is a transport for your assult squad not a missile and searchlight platform, and give it extra armour and smoke
Dread - ok dont like its weapons but if the fluff fits and you are limited to the figs you have..
Tac squads: Give the flamers to the guys in the rhino, give the plasma gun to a missile launcher shooty squad (I know this breaks your statements). Take all the heavy weapons out of the squads with rhinos. Give both rhinos Extra armour and smoke
Your Dev squad seems horibly confuse, I would ditch the multi metla out of it
I would ditch the land raider completely
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Black dragons and their special rules are trial rules, so I can't always use them. Also, these are all the SMurf minis I have, and the squad organization is how it was organized before I actually knew I'd be gaming with them, so the decals are kind of set.
Finally, at least the devestator squad has a large number of ablative wounds...
Overall, would this army get pounded in a game, or would it do alright? I'm debating whether to keep it or just sell it.
OK Abaltive on the dev squad - fine the best players do this but I think you got too much abaltive, this runs into your last question:
The army in its overall composition isnt bad at all, It isnt an attempt to power game, and so as a caveat, in a tourney you would probably get your but handed to you on a plate - tourneys being the home of the power gamer
In a casual game, the tweaks that you can not make would make the army more efficient, such as dropping some of those 15 point shock absorbers off your dev squad, so against a fluffy but well organised army you are at a slight disadvantage, but nothing you couldnt cope with if you are a better player than ou opposition
Against a typical "teen with a toys for the boys fixation" you should, assuming you are a competant player, kick his but
Everything you have been told is a lie!
