Hey everybody. It's no secret that we gamers are a very superstitious bunch when it comes to die rolls. So consider this a little survey of all the superstitions we can possibly put together.
For starters, I have one that I know is pretty common. It is very important that you roll different dice for your wound rolls than you did for your hit rolls. Obviously, your hit dice have already used up their good roll, and thus you are unlikely to roll those 6s again. I have a degree in Mathematics, so I know this is a load of bull, but for some reason I seem to roll higher when I use different dice... Probably because I started playing 40k before I took statistics and thus came to believe in the dice gods.
On the other hand, a friend of mine who I often play will start the game by rolling a whole bunch of dice and then only using the ones that rolled 5s and 6s. So clearly he believes the opposite.
How about you?
I, like you, use the ones that have used up their bad rolls, despite it having no mathematical effect. (i do however believe in what i call wish fulfilment, which i believe is when the subconsciousness helps achieve things that you want, such as good rolls, if you expect it to, many people disagree). However for ease when rolling to wound I use the dice that hit as then I know i didn't miscount. I will also sometimes pick up dices on 5 or 6s rather than lower ones (they have had time to learn that position in my mind).
I tend to roll better when saying something outrageous or stupid.
roll to hit with lascannon, "IMMA FIRIN' MA LAZER!"
Using Lash of Submission, "Bondage, run away marinies!"
Create flames for a galaxy and it will be warm. Put a galaxy in flames and it will be warm for the rest of it's existence.
Where i live some hobbist have werid luck traditions like some people by new dice sets if they roll bad one whole game also, one guy blows on the dice before the roll, Some people set all there dices on 6s and then pick them up and roll i have no superstition i roll the same dices to hit and wound it hasnt failed me yet haha statistics.

I've found that I usually can't will my dice to roll well. I can, however, will my opponent's dice to roll poorly almost every time. (this is usually on things like to wound rolls with lascannons against my destroyers or tomb spyders, or rolls to scatter with plasma cannons, etc.
When I dice has rolled poorly more than twice in a row, it goes back in the bag.
Dice are returned to the bag as soon as I finish rolling. Every time I have to roll, I grab a random handful of "fresh" dice from my dicebag, which is tied to my belt loop. Dice never sit on the table, except for the scatter dice.
Oh, also forgot to mention this, if my friend gets within 6ft of me my rolls get worse and his get better. We tested this 15 times. I rolled rapid firing marines into guardians and someone took there cover save for them, then he came within the 6ft radius and I killed like 5 less. Also somebody rolled for his Dark reaper saves and failed 2 out of 3. He rolls them and saves all three. No matter what list I run or what tactics I use the dice save him (10 drop-podding sternguard with 6 combi-meltas bounced off the back of a wave serpent). I'm thinking of hiring a dice roller to solve this problem, seriously.
I always use my black dice for rolling for my GK terminators - otherwise they will scatter 12" or fail to kill one guardsmen from shooting from a ten man squad not in cover then proceed to loose combat against them.
I use the dice that hit to roll wounds, the dice that wounded to roll saves...
Some people I know don't do this and either get all dice the same colour or some other random thing. If the dice were kind enough 2 give me a hit they shoulb be kind enough to give me a wound.

I need to warm up my dice. They usually roll really poorly in the first round or two, then pick up after that. and NEVER TOUCH ANOTHER GAMERS DICE! They will bite you in the hand. Of course, this is all in my head. I usually need convincing my opponent is real too
