Space Marines (vanilla)
Space Marines (other sub-chapter)
It's not all about 'competitiveness' or 'overwhelming power'. I don't know about you, but I find that the look of each army, and the appearance of its models, adds a lot of fun to the game. Of course, if the model is terrible looking, or really boring, it can detract a lot of fun as well.
So what army do you think has the worst looking models, overall?
As an added question, which specific model do you feel is the worst looking?
I'll get the ball rolling by saying that I think the Eldar are the silliest looking race in the game. They're wearing penis helmets, for God's sake. The Dire Avengers aren't as bad, but the majority look like coneheads.
As for worst specific model, it has to be the Fiends of Slaanesh. I love using them in battle, but the official model looks like a squid-pony with lobster claws. It's the kind of monster that a 6 year old boy would draw.

"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
Strangly enough I was thinking about starting a thread with exactly the oppostie question a couple of days back.
I think pretty much every army has their ups and downs. I think the few armys without any bad looking models are guard, space marines (although with the new BA stuff I think that's up for debate), necrons, orks and sisters (IMO possibly the best looking army). Out of that there are alot of models that don't look good, are alot which are quite bland but none which make me think "GW, what were you thinking?".
I'm not personally a fan of tau in many ways, but I think together they can make quite a sleek cohesive looking force.
I like alot of the DH models, but they are let down by various areas for me.
Eldar have some models that I think could be works of art in their own right. The farseer models IMO are among the best GW make but the army is let down by stuff like jetbikes and I don't like the new Striking scorpians. Fourtunally i have enough of the old ones for my needs, although I'm not sure what I'll do if I want to expand my army.
Dark eldar are high on the list of worst looking armies, They have 1 or 2 nice looking models, but the rest are medicore at best.
Chaos are about equal with dark eldar as are chaos daemons IMO. They both have some very nice looking models, and if it is done to be a themed army can look nice, but both are also let down by some truly horrible models and just don't generally look cohesive on the board.
So, worst = chaos, chaos daemons and dark eldar. I voted for CSM because they are the worst out of the three IMO and it's harder to work around or adjust their bad looking stuff.
Best = WH, orks just cos they're funky looking and necrons because as a force they can be awe inspiring and individually have some very nice models.
Eldar could so easily be in that list, but I'm not sure it would be a force you could ever see on the table.
The rest are just "meh". Let down by a few models (I'm looking at you vespid), a few nice looking models, but nothing to really lift them up and overall to bland.
Pretty much any army can look good on the table if painted cohesively (obviously harder for some if you keep with fluff) but I've kinda ignored this effect in what I've said above.

there is not question DE. They really need to update the models they're hideous
WH 40k Armies (W/L/D):
Tyranid: 2250 Points of Awesome (5/4/1)
Necrons: 1000 Points (4/0/1)
As a Dark Eldar player it was hard to vote for Dark Eldar, but I did.
I also dont like Chaos Demons, but only if its a mixed force. If they stick with one god they look really good.
Dark Eldar have some really sweet looking models. The Ravager, Raider, Incubi, Reaver Jet Bike, and Warrior are great. For the rest of my army I usually convert from Dark Elves. It's kinda sad. Fully half of my units are just to ugly to field. I own most of the models, but I only mix them in to my other squads if I have to.
Myself, I'd say it's the Daemons of Chaos, though not necessarily because they're lousy models, but because they're so bloody out of place. It made sense to have a few archaic demons running around alongside Chaos Space Marines, but on their own, they're essentially a fantasy army in the far distant future. They might as well run around with bows and arrows!
As for the ugliest model...
...my vote is for these guys.
echoing what has already been said, as for worst looking army id have to say deamons of chaos. individually, mono god forces are very striking and have a very cool look. but mixed god armies have too much going on and dont look very good. Its like a rainbow threw up on the table top. "there's a splotch of red over there, some pink and purple over here, some blues and gold, and brown and green up here. why do my eyes hurt?"
as for worst specific models, I love most of gws miniatures but some just look awful.
the dark eldar jet bikes just look outdated. they look like something id see in an 80s hair metal video
How can he hold the reigns with dual lightning claws? hes going to cut off that things head.
But the model I think that irks me the most is commander shadowsun
not because the overall model looks bad (I do rather like her armor) but that her exposed head has a nose on it. shes a tau. their olfactory organs are in their mouths. her art dosnt have a nose, so why does the model? whoever modeled her decided to "make her sexy" by making her look human and relatable. im sorry, but shes a leathery blue communist alien with hooves and a nose in her mouth. she isnt going to be relatable. God forbid we have ugly female anything. kind of a rant, I know. its not like I have to build her with her helemt off, I just think its silly. and ugly.
