I've designed an army list, but I don't know how good it is or how many points it is. Please help!
2 squards of 2 land speeders (one is a typhoon)
2 squads of 3 bikes
1 tactical squad with melta, ten men, in a land raider,
1 tactical squad with flamer, ten men, in a rhino,
1 assault squad, unknown number of men, in a land raider
1 terminator squad, 8 men, in a Land raider Crusader.
All the veichles have smoke launchers
a) you can't put an assault squad in a transport.
you need an HQ choice to make the army legal. (supposed to be b ) minus the space)
c) this belongs in the army list forum (mods, please move)
d) 3 Land Raiders in such a small army? Can you say points sink?
Ravenwing: list made, now just to buy all the stuff on it (why do bikes have to be so expensive?)
1. buy the codex
2. put up a proper and legal army list
3. Lose the toys for the boys syndrome before you do 2.
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Since you're a newbie I'll work with you here. Your points list is in the vicinity of 2000 pts.
You can take a Land Raider as a Heavy Support choice, and you can choose an assault squad without jump packs, and then they can be transported by it, but they count as 2 separate units on the force organization chart.
You have 5 units of Fast Attack, which is too many for the standard mission. With a maximum of 3 choices, you could put 3 land speeders in one squad, 5 bikes in another, and the assault marines in a 3rd.
You do need an HQ choice, which means you'll need to spend about another hundred points above what's listed here.
As to the playability / competitiveness of this list-- I'd say that you have a black templars style rather than an ultramarines style in mind, and that being the case I recommend you start smaller and learn to play them before you invest in a whole bunch of models you won't end up using.
Choose about 750 or 1000 points and try out the units. Try to pick one Fast Attack choice, one Heavy Support, one elites, and a couple of Troops choices, and the mandatory HQ. Once you know what you like, and what you lack, your further model purchases will be easier to decide upon. For example, see if a Land Raider works for you before you buy 3 of them!
Good luck. Marines rock.
Purge all the heretics,
Kill the alien scum,
Suffer not the unclean to live,
And have a beer when you're done.
