Hello...Im new here and to 40k. After lots and lots of researching I have narrowed my army choice down to 2 armies, Blood Angels and Tyranids!
I love Close combat and charging in to beat down my enemy. That has always been my style in every game ive ever played. Well it seems BA and Tyranids are the armies I have pretty much settled on due to the fact that they both can do Close Combat very well. Plus they both look simply amazing! My question is what army should I go? I understand it might be rather I want Quality or Quantity but if I can get more information on these armies id greatly appreciate it!
First off is Blood Angels the most common space army played? Beacause its going to be very hard to talk myself into an army that is played by 50% of the population. I mean Space Marines are already the most played army and if Blood Angels are the most commonly played chapter then I dont know if I could play them. Being called a band wagon, newb army, or something along those lines isnt my thing haha. I know Space Wolves are common, along with Ultramarines, Vanilla marines, and Black templar.
Also Tyranids seem amazing with their Genestealers but im afraid of getting raped all the time vs mech armies which seem to be the new thing in 5th Ed.
So...Is Blood Angels a good choice or Tyranids and why? I need to figure out what army Im going to play b/c i will be going to the store tomorrow and picking up a codex and then making a proxy army to play against my friends CSM or IG.
Thanks in advance!!!

First off, Welcome to the forums. While I havent played or bought a 40k army yet, I have been reading and researching 40k on these forums for YEARS! It is good to have you onboard!
Its funny you made this thread because I also am looking for a CC army to start up. While there are many armies out there that are capable of CCing very well, I think im going to have to lean towards Tyranids because they are less played than SMs and they just recently had a new codex that came out. Dealing with mech might be a little hard but whats wrong with a little challenge.
I accually made a thread asking everyone opinion on the best assault army so you can go take a look at that post and maybe that will help you out a little with your decsion!
I have yet to play BA but let I am experienced user of the Nids . Let me give you a run down.
Amazing ability to swarm armies with sheer numbers
Amazing weapon choices, with guns that can shoot from very far away or guns that can destroy battle tanks
Brilliant units, such as the new trygon and malwoc
Awesome models, the models in general are very well sculpted
Very competitive armies, they can be made to win tournaments with ease
However, it cant always be hookers and sunshine. There is a major flaw, anti tank. But in every army if you take 3 or 4 units dedicated to killing tanks its no REAL issue.
I have made a forum where I make tyranid army lists for other members of the forum, just have basic idea of what you want and follow the instructions, the link is:
Want to start Tyranids? http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ml#post1799921 AND http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...t-builder.html
Well it looks like its tied so far...I mean I think BA are REALLY cool but im pretty sure they are probably the most played army in 40k...the top 3 is probably Space Wolves, BA, and Vanilla marines....
Im really leaning towards Tyranids b/c they are less played and more of a challenge..ugh but its still anyones game!
After comparing SMs codex and BA Codex...theres almost no difference...maybe a few rules but the prices and stats are about the same...and in some cases cheaper for the CMs...
I guess after looking at the army really hard...the only really reason I like BAs is b/c their assault Terms with thunder hammers and storm shields inside a land raider is just so sexy...and on of that I watched a video were an assualt term army raped 3x Carnafexs...which was depressing...

I wouldn't rely much on gamer videos, since most of them are done by "bad" players.
The BA codex has been a long awaited tome, and was hard for anyone to get ahold of for awhile. They have some snassy box sets too, where you really can mix and match every piece.
The BA are the UBER assault force.
The Tyranid codex is basically a big ball of puddy where a player can build the force he/she wants. It's not as "open" as the last codex (sniping cranies) but it's close.
Whether you want a nightmare swarm, or a godzila force, the sky is pretty much the limit ... higher if you have a bottle of booze nearby ;D
I prefer Tyranids for close combat power. With bone sword warriors, hive tyrants, mawlocks, trygons, genestealers, tervigons, and hermaguants, they're a very impressive army. Vehicles are a problem, but that's why you should use units with anti-armor shooting, like zoanthropes.
Blood Angels are also good, but a bit overplayed at the moment. In a sense, they're less about close combat power itself, and more about speed. They're an incredibly fast and mobile force. They do have a few amazing close combat units, but their low model counts will keep them from being as good as the Tyranids in the assault, in my opinion.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
Also keep in mind that Blood Angels are both overplayed and have a reputation as a power gamer/cheese army, which may sour some people on you if you choose to go that way. I tend to refer to this as "Not Another Marine Army Syndrome." Also, many people build their lists with MEQs in mind, and some even against Blood Angels specifically. Tyranids are more unpredictable. You'll have much more versatility in choosing your force, rather than the fewer "competitive" lists you tend to see with MEQs.
Wow someone voted on this recently? Who is the necromancer who pulled this from the graveyard. The guy was buying his army last Sept. I don't think voting next May is going to influence him.
