    Smallest and Biggest armies

Here is the deal: Take a codex and build the smallest point value and biggest point value list possible while maintaining FOC. Then tell us if the list makes any sense and if you think you would play it

    I'll go first with Necrons

    Smallest: 460 points

    Lord
    10 Warriors
    10 Warriors

I'd play this and I think I would have a pretty good chance of winning, too. This list is solid and equipped to handle pretty much anything that can be legally fitted into 500 points.

    Biggest: 5385 points

    Nightbringer
Lord w/Destro body, Phase Shifter, Orb, Warscythe
    10 Pariahs
    10 Immortals w/d-fields
    10 Immortals w/d-fields
    20 Warriors w/d-fields
    20 Warriors w/d-fields
    20 Warriors w/d-fields
    20 Warriors w/d-fields
    20 Warriors w/d-fields
    20 Warriors w/d-fields
    5 Destroyers
    5 Destroyers
    5 Destroyers
    Monolith
    Monolith
    Monolith

I'd play this if I'd have the models... and fully expected to lose. While it would be fun to see all this firepower in action this list would not last past turn 3 against almost anyone else with 5000 points... it would survive Imperial Guard, Witchhunters and Tau. Maybe. But it has no real close-combat capability and the 20 warriors per squad means I'd lose all 20 in one sweeping advance. The irony is, of course that if you lose the additional warriors (pick up 6 times 10 ) the army actually becomes STRONGER while costing 1300 points less... thats some serious inverse scaling, eh?

Ill knock something out for nids... Cheapest list is:

    Tyranid prime
    3 ripper bases
    3 ripper bases

Total of 140 points. Would i ever use it... no. Its terrible. The Primes got no upgrades on it at all and is near useless, and rippers suck at the best of times.

    As for most expensive...

Tyrant, TL devourers and HVC, Hive commander, Old adversary, Indescribable horror, Adrenal glands, Toxin sacs, Acid blood, Implant attack, toxic miasma, regeneration and wings with 3 Tyrant Guard with boneswords

3 zoanthropes, mycetic spore, venom cannon

3 Carnifexs, Crushing Claws, Heavy venom cannon, Frag spines, Adrenal glands, Toxin sacs, Bio-plasma, Regeneration

3 Carnifexs, Crushing Claws, Heavy venom cannon, Frag spines, Adrenal glands, Toxin sacs, Bio-plasma, Regeneration

    Total cost..... 9965 points.

Would i use it and does it make sense... Its 10,000 points. Theres simply no way to judge how effective a 10,000 point list will be against another 10,000 point list. So i have no idea

Sorry to spoil sport but if i remember rightly you can't take both C'tan in one list

On the upside you CAN take a Necron lord with orb, having no other choice
WORSHIP THE VINDICATOR!!! (And a Drop Pod full of Combie-Melta Sternguard never hurts either)

This looks like fun, I'll start with tau. smallest list tau could take would more than likely be:

shas'el w/ TL flamer and blacksun filters
    6 fire warriors
    6 fire warriors
    price-179

would I take that? not at all. Even though I could fit at least 2x that (and have points left over), it just doesn't deal with anything.

Now for the largest listI'll keep it reasonable-ish, the idea being I am not going to take every single thing I could possibly take)

Shas'o w/ airbursting fragmentation projector, plasma rifle, shield generator, HW multi-tracker, HW drone controller, 2 marker drones, iridium armor, HW target lock, HW blacksun filter
shav're w/cyclic ion blaster, plasma rifle, shield generator, HW drone controller, 2 marker drones, HW multi-tracker, failsafe detonator, HW blacksun filter
shav're w/ missile pod, plasma rifle, shield generator, HW drone controller, 2 marker drones, HW multi-tracker, stimulant injector, HW black sun filter

shas'ui, markerlight, 2 marker drones, HW drone-controller, bonding knife, HW target lock, emp grenades, photon grenades

    2xshas'ui TL plasma, shield generator

    heavy support points-1209

would I use this army? probably not. It looks pretty great, but it is specced to fill too many roles

Aright, here goes. My list, using Imperial Guard. There's a LOT of wargear upgrades to take, so I'll list them for the first instance of a unit, and then just say the rest have them all as well.

    Smallest:

HQ 1 - Company Command Squad: 50 points
    Troops 1 - Veteran Squad: 70 points
    Troops 2 - Veteran Squad: 70 points

    Total: 190 points.

This could be decent. I'd want to mech it up and add special weapons, but if my opponent is limited to 190 points too, I could keep it as is. Issuing FRFSRF to each squad every turn could be devastating.

    Biggest (hoo boy):

    HQ:
    CCS: 660 points
    -Creed
    -Kell
    -Nork
    -All Advisors
-2 Plasma Guns, Medipack, Heavy Flamer
-Chimera w/ all upgrades (Dozer Blade, HK Missile, Pintle Stubber, Extra Armor, Camo Netting)

    CCS: 505 points
    -Straken
    -All Advisors
-2 Plasma Guns, Medipack, Heavy Flamer
    -Chimera with all upgrades

    5x Ministorum Priest w/ Eviscerator: 300 points

    2x Techpriest Enginseer: 370 points
    -Melta Bombs
    -5 Servitors w/ 2 Multi-Meltas

    Elites:
3x Ogryn Squad w/6 Ogryns each: 1140 points
    -Chimera with all upgrades

    Troops:
    7x Infantry Platoon: 19070 points
PCS: Medipack, Heavy Flamer, 2 Plasma Guns
-Platoon Commander: Plasma Pistol, Power Fist
    -Commissar: Plasma Pistol, Power Fist
    -Chimera with all upgrades
    5x Infantry Squad:
-Plasma Gun, Krak Grenades, Vox Caster
    -Heavy Weapons Team w/ Lascannon
-Sergeant: Plasma Pistol, Power Weapon, Melta Bombs
    -Commissar: Plasma Pistol, Power Weapon
    -Chimera with all upgrades
    5x Heavy Weapons Squad:
    -3 Lascannons, Krak Grenades
    2x Special Weapons Squad:
    -3 Demo Charges
    Conscript Squad
One Platoon has Al'rahem: +40 points
One Platoon has Chenkov w/SITNW: +95 points

    Fast Attack:
3x Hellhound Squadron w/3 Hellhounds each: 1944 points
-Hull Multi-melta, Camo Netting, Smoke Launchers, Searchlight, Dozer Blade, HK missile, Pintle Stubber, Extra Armor

    Heavy Support:
3x Leman Russ Executioner Squadron w/3 tanks each: 2840 points
-Hull Lascannon, Plasma Sponsons, Camo Netting, Dozer Blade, HK missile, Pintle Stubber, Extra Armor, 1 tank has Pask.

    Total: 26,864

Phew! I think it's safe to say that this list is insane. However, as far as actually playing it? While it would obviously crush anyone through sheer weight of points (sounds very Guard-like), there's a lot of stuff that I wouldn't normally consider taking in a regular list, such as Ogryns. I'm also not a big fan of the plasma tanks either, I'd rather take other variants if I'm taking a full 9 tanks. Similarly, while I love Hellhounds, I'm not sure I'd use all of my Fast Attack slots on them.

Technically, Chaos Marine armies can be infinitely large, because there is no limit to how many greater daemon or lesser daemon units they can add to a list. Just sayin. ^_^

Anyway, I'll stick with what I know best:

    ORKS

    Smallest:

    Big Mek [35]

    10 Grots w/runtherder [40] x2

    Total: [115]

    Largest:

    HQ

    Ghazghkull w/ammo runt [228]

    Mad Dok Grotznik [160]

    ELITE

10 Nob Bikers w/all with: powerklaws, stikkbombs, combi-skorcha, eavy armor, bosspole, waaaugh banner, ammo runt, cybork [1090] x3

    TROOP

10 Nob Bikers w/all with: powerklaws, stikkbombs, combi-skorcha, eavy armor, bosspole, waaaugh banner, ammo runt, cybork [1090]

30 Ork Slugga/Shoota Ard Boyz w/3 rokkits, stikkbombs, nob, powerklaw, bosspole, cybork bodies for all [550]

30 Ork Slugga/Shoota Boyz w/3 rokkits, stikkbombs, nob, powerklaw, bosspole, cybork bodies for all [430] x4

    FAST

20 Storm Boyz w/nob, powerklaw, bosspole, cybork bodies all [385] x2

19 Storm Boyz w/cybork bodies for all, + Boss Zagstrukk [403]

    HEAVY

10 Flash Gitz w/more dakka, shootier, blastas, 3 ammo runts, painboy, grot orderly, cybork bodies for all [500] x2

9 Flash Gitz w/more dakka, shootier, blastas, 3 ammo runts, painboy, grot orderly, cybork bodies for all, + Kaptin Badrukk [590]

Comes in at just a bit under 10,000 at 9,786.

Would I play either of these lists?

I would proudly play the Orks in any and all situations. ^_^
