My line of thinking went like this: I thought about how cool it would be to play a Baneblade in a standard mission against my friends. But then I thought about it, and remembered that a Baneblade is 500 points, which would be 1/4 of my whole army! As awesome as a Baneblade is, thats a lot of eggs in one basket for that low point level (relatively speaking). So, if given the option to play Apocalypse models in a less than 2000 point game, what would you consider worth it?
yes you can and i have faced a Warhound titan at 300 points it wasnt preety for my nids but my orks went against it the following week it wasnt Preety for him
Shokk Attack kinda just went woosh I had two of them it died
For fielding baneblades and the like the spearhead formation is the best way to go about it - one unit maximum, takes a hit before the game starts, and provides the opponent with non-superheavy options to counter it (like thermite bombs).
There'd be balance issues, of course, but I think it's definitely doable.
Personally, the only Apocalypse vehicles I'd use in a regular army are a Big Mek Stompa in an Ork army (within range of a KFF), and a Baneblade in a Space Marine list (any chapter). Both are powerful, but not so expensive that they take up too much of your army.
I wouldn't use the Baneblade in an Imperial Guard list though, just because 3 Leman Russes would probably make for a better unit.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
I think they might be a bit difficult to take down really, a Baneblade Variant is only 450-500 points but is about as survivable as 3 Land Raiders and has much more firepower.
This is only against standard armies though. I reckon 3 Zoanthropes in a spore or 10 Sternguard in a pod with Combimeltas would rip one to bits.
Also Warhounds seem very overpowered to me, they should cost a lot more for all the hitpoints and Strength D weaponry they get (compare TurbolaserDestructor to the Volcano Cannon on the Shadowsword!)
Stormsword with LasCannon sponsons. That 10" S10 blast that ignores cover saves would make horde armies and some vehicles rue the day they ever showed up to the battlefield.
