Just a random thought and some spare time on my hands. XD
If GW were to create a whole new army/race what would you like it to be like? ANOTHER...Space Marine branch off? A totally new Xeno army? Which one would you choose and what characteristics would you want it to have?
You could always have a slave army where the immensly powerful and technolgically advanced leaders send an army of lower class/slave warriors into the fray to tie up enemy units and halt their advance towards their lines while they devestate their foes with their advanced weaponry...actually that kinda sounds like imperial guard to me but only slightly more refined. lol.
So what do you guys think? A race of lizard men? A race that can control the very elements themselves? A Space Marine army that IS new and interesting? I'm kind interested in hearing what is rolling round those heads of yours. Some gems I'm sure.
This may be stupid or it may not be, its like a half formed idea in my head but hey here goes. Dwarves. My main reason is because if you try and relate most fantasy based races to 40k you go, high elves - eldar, dark elves - dark eldar, empire - IG, sm etc.... what happened to the dwarves? I know skaven, vampire counts etc aren't represented - but they do in alot of ways come under chaos space marines. And lizardmen are quite like kroot in alot of aspects. Anyway, the main one that stands out to me is dwarves. I know there is the whole hush hush thing about squats etc - but take the new game mantic are doing, how are they starting their new 40kish game? With dwarves. I just think it'd be different enough to be cool, but close enough that its not crazy cyber aliens from beyond the universe that are carzy powerful but somehow you have to be sold lots of minis so they're not actually that powerful in the game so they don't match the fluff.
or there's goats. Everyone likes goats.

As for everything else you've said its probaly very true and those armies were more than likely inspired by those very things. So how about the dwarves then? Got any ideas of what kind of army they might be or anything (other than their Physical appearance) that would set them aside from all the other armies out there? What kind of weapons? CC or shooty? Mixed or specialised squads? what would their troops be like or their elites?
You have a half formed idea, lets see it when it's fully formed and ready to kick some ass! ^_^
Slaan would be cool. There are no reptilian armies in 40K at the moment, and they're already in the fluff. Whether the codex offered degenerate slaan or lingering remnants of the original race's power (or both as options) isn't a big deal; really, it's all about the lizards with some biotech.
Another human-based army? Rogue traders. It's non-Imperial (covers independents, pirates, mercenaries, etc), can include some fun xeno units, power lifters as walkers (with a female pilot just in case you're attacking tyrannids ), and is of course a nod to the origins on the game.

I agree with a rogue type army. Not evil or anything, but smugglers, cast offs, exiles and mercenaries.
Instead of points, think of it as money. You can "buy" anything as long as you could afford it. Merc marines for example might be exactly like regular marines only cost a few points more. This points increase would make up for the utility of being able to field them next to looted IG artillery. Or even do things like have marine stat line soldiers but carrying ork heavy weapons. All for a price of course.
I'd like to see Transformers , just cause the had a massive civil war doesn't mean they can't be a race. For any of you who has played War for Cybertron I was thinking you could have scouts as troops, scientists as fast attack, leaders as elites, warriors as heavy support, then for hq you could have all the characters like bumblebee, starscream and brawl, I think it would be quite epic
One shall stand, and one shall fall.
I can't remember the threads name, but this topic was covered about 6-7 months ago. I want something that is as far away from Marines as we can get. How about shapeshifters who can take on the enemies statistics? Or conquerors of other galaxies who have all types of slave creatures as thralls to use. Super amount of variety in that idea.
I want them to create a dex or at least a mini-dex of those crystalline aliens living out in the Ghoul stars. There's already references to them in other books and dexs, why not just create a couple of units for them and we can have fun converting crystal people!
If someone helps you, rep them.
In a votewar you don't vote on a single match, you vote on the entire round. Got that?
