I was wondering whats the best army to defeat all forms of guard, as my main enemy in 40k is my brother who collects imperial guard. I personally think it would probably be tyranids as they can fleet of claw (foot). and would obliterate them in close combat, though im not sure so i decided to do this poll.
i say DE. they're fast, good in CC, have splinter cannons, and dark lances.
granted if you can catch them out in the open, with alot of firepower, they fall like ... guardsmen... but with their insanely fast raiders, it's hard to do this.
basically, if DE get first turn, IG loose. If IG get first turn, DE loose lol
I think eldar stand a good chance. They are fast, have both anti armour and anti infantry weapons ( good ones at that) They have relatively good armour and in CC they will beat any guard army any time.
He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day!
As a guard player I voted Necrons, especially someone who uses Wraiths, and is a smart Monolith Deepstriker. I just hate that glancing hit rule!
DE, and Speedfreaks, can also be very good against us.

Sir Winston Churchil
I voted Eldar. My friend plays IG, and I win nearly everytime. Eldar are fast, good in CC, and I like useing my Striking Scorpions Tank Hunter special rule.
But IG is a great army (Y)
Hope is the first step on the road to dissapointment.
What about tau?
They are good. And when i play my IG friend i always win.
Selling Dwarf Battalion - Empire + Chaos Army Book - SM Codex - 40k stuff
I say Tau, too. Broadsides and Hammerheads eat tanks for breakfast, Hammerheads can turn most of a squad into meatloaf with a single shot, and Fire Warriors stand up pretty good in shooting with IG.

To help others avoid the same fate:
- Polls of any type are a risky thread choice. They're too often just a variation on 'What's your favorite xxxx?'
- This post is just a variation on one of the countless 'What's your favorite army?" polls. Everyone is just going to answer with their favorite army choice.
- It's obvious that any army can defeat any other army. Depends on the makeup of that particular army, the skill of the players, and the luck of the dice
