I currently play Guard. I love them, but I want to start a 2nd army also. I really don't feel like playing Space Marines, cuz everyone plays them. Necrons are too static. I'd kinda like to play an army where it uses mostly shorter range guns, but is pretty balanced between shooty and assault. I like the advancing fire.
Any ideas or advice?
Emperor have mercy on those who stand against me, for I shall not.
To be honest, if you're after a balance between shooty and assault, a vanilla space marine army really is the best choice. If you're dead against them though, how about sisters of battle (witch hunters). They have a blend of unit types but are much more characterful than space marines. What's more, faith points add an extra dimension and the models are top notch. The best bit though is that you can start off buying a unit or two and induct them into your guard army. It'll be cheaper to start off and it'll allow you to learn the units in the context of an army you know well.
This sounds like an occasion for dark eldar. They have some good weapons, amazing in assault, good short ranged weapons (splinter cannons, shredders, destructors, blasters) and have good tankbusting weapons (DL), which are all very good. they also have some of the best CC units in the game (for the points). Wychs. Also their wargear is amazing and they are extremely fast. I suggest looking around in their forum. Hope this helps
Nothing a Battle Cannon Couldnt fix
If you browse a little you'll see that "Which army...." questions are getting closed.
Because they are nothing but a variation on the "What is your favorite army?" They always get the same answers. Whatever the responder's favorite army is, they recommend. In the end it's completely useless.
If the post stays open long enough it becomes a collection of opinions about every army there is. Impossible to browse for specific information about an army. And we don't need any more ten page threads on "...tell me everything..."
Read about each army. Try GW's site and our various army specifc forums. Ask questions about specific armies in their own forums. Do not post a general "Which is best/strongest/favorite/etc..." Especially don't multiple post the same question in each army forum.
Then decide what you are interested in painting and playing, then buy them. It's you that will have to do the research and make the choice.
