I want to start my own army, I've been using my brother's Aspect Eldar and I find them frustrating due the Eldar strategie. I mainly want to play a 'get in your face' army that's slightly more shooty and slightly less assault. I'm currently testing a 1200 pt SM army:
Troops:3 Tac squads and 3 Rhinos
Fast Attack: Scout Bikes
Heavy Support: Destructor
I was wondering if there were any other armies that would work well in the 'get in your face' army that's slightly more shooty and slightly less assault setup.
First off, we kinda need to know whats on those things, or else we can't help you... For example, what kind of dread is that? Is it a long range support dread, or a cc dread? Also, what do you plan to do with those things? Scout bikes have many different things they can do, and just saying you have them doesn't help us.
I would drop the rhinos, but that's just me. It seems more assaulty, and you said you didn't want that. I know they are good for getting a firing base set up, but I'd rather walk or drop pod in.
Last, what the heck is a destructor!? Is it the autocannon preadator set up?
Hope this has helped. Follow the guide lines in the first paragraph next time you post a list. And welcome to LO.
erm. an army thats more get in your face but not assaulty. i'm not sure what you mean.
if you want shooty one of the shootiest armies i've ever seen, including tau, were dark angels. basically your tac squads get 2 heavy weapons a squad not one, they can unleash loads of plasma death.
or if you'd rather go evil how about iron warriors (chaos marines) you're allowed 4 heavy support slots, they have cool models with a great colour scheme and they get no 0-1 cap on obliterators. so should be able to shoot the hell out of anything.
Whjat he's looking for is an army that gets close shooting all the way, but not into CC. The list is not meant to be specific and basically gives the idea of the small pts army hes proxied but hasn't used in a full game yet.
I'm his only opponent till he matures a bit more and can play a game properly, I unfortunetly have only started get good exposure to the whole world of 40K in the last 2-3 months so I can only give basic help.
The real question is "Is this type of army good to get close to the other guy without getting into assault, and if not, what army should I look at?"
I'm hoping that he'll get an army he'll enjoy playing and not one thats a pain to play.
If you wanna be completely shooty go IG...
IMHO, Dark Angels or Iron Warriors. SM and CSM are both pretty shooty armies that can easily hold thier own in cc. By the way, hello everyone, first post of another necron fanatic!
Umm if you wanted an get in your face but not too close army then why didn't you go for crons or sisters?
"Heresy is like a garden weed, it won't stop feeding until you... BURN THE WHOLE DAMN GARDEN WITH A FLAMER, BURN IT, BURN IT TO HELL!!!!!" "Is there a wittle puppy in the garden? ITS A DAEMON! BURN IT!"
I'd say mech Tau with Ionheads, they get up to the enemy then stop, but don't make a long fight that normal Tau do. Otherwise you're in hte same boat I am dude, I wanted the same kind of army, and DA or custom SM or the Tau I recommended are your best bet.
