i am having a very tough time figuring out which army i should start collecting. considering it costs so much i dont want to pick one and a little while later realize i picked the wrong one. so i was wondering if people could tell me various pros and cons about these three armies and which one i should pick. thank you!
Okay, I'll styart be saying that some more information on how you you want to play. Shooty? Assaulty? Hybrid?
I I can give Pros and Cons about Tau so here goes!
- Best Basic weapon IMO(Longer Range and higher Strengh)
- Good Transport (Devilfish)
- RAILGUNS (Gotta love 'em)
- Crisis Suits (One of the most versitile units in the game)
- Gun Drones (My little 12 pt model just took out your 145+ pt Predator )
- Good army to mix and match Shooty and Mechanised tactics
- Krootox (Buy these and I may have to kill you)
- No really CC unit (The Kroot are better off waiting to counter-assault an enemy unit)
- Pure Shooty armies have lost some effectiveness in 4th Edition, but Hybrid(Some Mech + Some Shooty) and full Mech are quite effective
- Not a large selection of units (A total of 14 different units compared to SM who have 27, more than double)
There my be more, but that is all I can think of at the moment.
Personally I am both a Nercon and an Eldar player, in my opinion here is how come out for necrons
-Every necron ranged weapon will glance on a 6, no matter the armor value
-They just dont die, on top on their 3+ saves they have WBB roles when they do die
-The necron lord has one of the most evil peices of wargear in the game, the Veil of Darkness, which can transport a unit to anywhere on the feild
-Their special characters, the Ctans, are GODS
-tomb spyders produce few units
- monilith highly under prices for what you get
-Wraith can move through walls and other terrian
-You lose when you only have 25% of your necrons left
-not all units count as necrons
-the basic unit costs 18 pts
-Ctans are incredibly expensive
-none of the assualt troops have power weapons
-low I on basic warriors
In order to be happy, you really should decide for yourself...if you are willing to let soemone else make the decision, at least set some parameters for them to choose for you.
Do you want to win all the time?
Do you hate losing units?
Do you want shooty or CC?
Do you want versatility/customization?
Necrons are tough. Straight up. Even when you lose a unit, they could get back up and keep on trukkin'. They can be very shooty, but do alright in CC. They aren't very customizable though. They are quite versatile to make up for it though.
Tau can win on a reguler basis so long as you are a very good player. They have some of the best weapons in the game. They are NOT a CC army though. If you are losing, you are probably losing badly, and if you are winning, you are probably doing great. They can be quite versatile and are customizable, but not nearly as much so as other armies.
Tyranids can be shooty, they really can. Lots of models=lots of guns=lots of shots=lots of hits=lot's of wounds=lots of death. That said, they are MUCH better at CC. You might not win consistently though as you will be losing units everywhere. They are a horde army and you are meant to lose units to get into CC and start dominating. They are quite customixable with a plethora of options that could boggle your mind if you don't have a direction you want to go.
Blah, blah, choose for yourself is my personal advice. You can't be truly happy with someone else deciding for you IMO. What caught your eye in the first place about 40K?
Sig by:Knape, The Celestial, and Marlinspike, thanks guys!
