Hey, I was just curious. What do you guys think is the best CC army? Also, what CC unit do you think is the best?
I personally feel that Dark Eldar Wyches are the best close combat unit in the game...a close second being Genestealers.
For only 12 points a model (wyches), you get a unit that has unprecidented mobility (being mounted in a Raider), high defensive qualities when in close combat (invul save on all of them), and the ability to kill any unit/vehicle in the game (haywire grenades and agonizers). Wych weapons also give them the ability to cripple other army's close combat units by piling on negative close combatt modifiers to their opponents.
At equal or even lesser points they can go toe-to-toe and still defeat most other army's best close combat units (they rip apart howling banshees, make mincemeat out of grey knight terminators, and I've even seen a wych squad of 9 roll up an entire IG army of 50+ men within 3 turns).
Genestealers are about the only unit in the galaxy that can match the wyches in close combat (nightbringers aside), but a genestealer (with necessary upgrades) will generally cost over half as much more per model than a wych.
My 40K Armies:
- Thousand Sons
- Mordian Imperial Guard
- Dark Eldar
My Fantasy Armies:
- Lhamian Vampire Counts
Wyches pwn. Genestealers are good, but very expensive.
But in my mind...
15 Blood claws with 3 power fists and a wolf guard w/ power fist and bolt pistol.
16 power fist attacks. chuck a wolf priest w/ wolf helm of russ (or whatever the holy relic is called) and then you get....
65 cc attacks, and 20 power fist attacks. overkill is a good way to describe this. but cool overkill...
For CC necron Pariahs come pretty close (they are armed with warscthes, no save whatsoever!!) 10 pariahs and anecron lord can dish out 24 wounds that cannot ever be saved!
At Initiative 3 and 4... 4 only being for the Necron Lord.Originally Posted by The_Outsider
Soooo many things could easily beat this setup.
Not to mention, it costs a minimum of.. 470 points. Genestealers, especially, would rip them apart.. but Wyches would have a fine time at it, as well. I'd trust the Genestealers' Rending Claws a bit more, though, simply because they rely on their attacks and things like that.. the Wyches rely on their speed, invulnerable save (can't go up vs. Warscythes), and for anti-armour and high toughness, they rely on the Succubus' Agoniser.
I don't with them, just AGAINST them, and a SM Assault Marine Squad w/ Furious Charge and with a Chaplain is pretty Bad Ass. Lots of good Strength Hits, re-roll wounds, Power weapon on the Chaplain and a Power Fist on the Vet Sgt. Because you usually assualt because of the jump packs, you get to use your Furious Charge!

must say a kitted-out demon prince for the best CC model in itself
beast army would be a emperor's children
best cc unit for points:killing ratio would be genestealers unmodified 192 points for 12 of them and they can pretty much rip up anything they fight
wyches i would say are not good because they have to pay 80pts for a raider and so that makes them more expensive then genestealers. and they cant do anything to tanks or heavy-armoured models.
20 Ork Nobs with BArm + Pistol +PK
20 Int 6 attacks around
100 PK attacks on first round
80 Attacks thereafter
Thats if points are not an issue
Ork Freebooters - 7/0/0
Chaos Violators - 1/0/1
Tyrannids - 0/0/0
Ork Freebooters - 29/2/0
Chaos Violators - 1/0/0
Tyrannids - 4/0/0
Dark Elves - 0/0/0
I'd say the most destructive cc unit in the game(considering points costs) is Feral Ork Madboyz. Ridiculously cheap, mobs of 30(giving them near fearlessness), and choppas which reduce armour saves to a 4+. As if that wasn't bad enough, when doped up they become strength 5 and are initiative 6 on the charge! They can overwhelm even Wytches in close combat.
I'm curious Impending slaughter, what did you mean by Slaanesh cheese build? I know Noise Marines and Deamonettes can be sick in close combat, but I think Noise Marines' high points cost and the summoning rules for Deamonettes keep them balanced, if not nearly at the mercy of armies like Tyranids and Orks (and maybe even Imperial Guard!).
