I did a forum search, and didn't find this before, so hopefully I'm not duplicating anything.
I wanted to see what was your opinion on standard 40K troop choices. What is the best troop for the points?
A couple come to my mind:
Sister of Battle: One more point than a Storm Trooper, but +1 better save, good standard guns, and the ability to use Faith.
Fire Warriors: Great, all purpose gun, decent save.
Grey Knights: Expensive, but you get so much; Storm Bolters, Fearless, Schrouding, S6 attacks, True Grit, Hi weapon skill. I wouldn't have said this 6 months ago before I started playing them, but I do now.
Chaos Space Marines: All the MEQ stats, versatile kit, and a point less than a Space Marine.
Just my thoughts.....
"A love for tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril."
Sir Winston Churchil
Dark Eldar Warrior - (8 pts) BS and WS equal to marines but better Initiative, plus you can feild 4 special weapons per squad. Very cost effective.
War Record Since Sept 2005
Old Codex 48-20-9 Dark Eldar
New Codex 1-0-0 Dark Eldar
how about the basic tactical marine?
marine stats, power armour, ATSKNF, access to heavy and special weapons, power armour...
if there were less marine players around and not such a huge anti marine slant on 40k i'd say the basic marine was seriously underpointed.
How about a Hormagaunt?
WS and I like a Space Marine, and you can upgrade both to be superior to a Space Marine. Not to mention the option to upgrade its strenght or the fact that Hormagaunt can potentially move 24" in a single turn, assault move and everything included.
Genestealers are troop choices too, they have the rending ability, very high WS and I and... I could go on and on, but are they a "standard" troop choice? If they are, I'd say they're the best buy, point for point.
3rd edition rending rippers
how about slugga boyz? they're pretty immense: "terminator armour you say? looks like a 4+ from here..."
or madboyz if thats allowed. for their points they're amazing.
Yeah, and they can fleet, so are very fast. Probably the most cost effective troop in the game.Originally Posted by medic_4077

Hmm probally a DE warrior or maybe a genestealer.
If that is truly your choice, then I would kindly point you in the direction of Eldar Guardians. They are arguably one of the poorest Troops choices in the game. When they are compared directly with any other basic Troops Choice in the game, their stats, weapons, equipment and upgrades fall considerably short for their points cost.By the looks of it, why don't I take a longshot and go with...
"Howabout every basic Troop choice out there?"
...What? Isn't that what's happening?
My vote for best overall would have to go to Sisters of Battle. Low points cost, great basic weapon, incredible armor, good stat line, good squad upgrades and the ability to generate and utilize Faith Points. They are all around incredible.
