I've finally settled on a Tau army for next years UK GT, and have decided to give myself plenty of time to completet the army. This is the first try at the army list, so I'd like you guys to pick it to pieces and suggest any improvements

    Here we go:

    HQ:
    Shas'o Ro'nan Mont'yr Malcoar, Multi-tracker, Plasma Rifle, Missilepod (110)
    Ethereal Aun Ro'nan Sho'kara D'as (50)

    Elite:
    XV8 team- 3 XV8s, each with Multi-tracker, Plasma rifle, Missilepod (195)
    XV15 team- 6 XV15s, bonded, (190)

    Troop:
    12 Fire warriors, bonded (130)
    12 Fire warriors, bonded (130)
    12 Fire warriors, bonded (130)
    12 Fire warriors, bonded (130)

    Fast Attack:
    7 Gun drones (84)

    Heavy Support:
    XV88 team- 2XV88s, 1 with Multi-tracker, 1 with Drone controller & 2 shield drones (175)
    XV88 team- 2XV88s, 1 with Multi-tracker, 1 with Drone controller & 2 shield drones (175)

    Total: 1499

Now I'm thinking I may change the Gun drone squadron to a Devilfish for one of the fire warrior squads, but I'm not sure how that would work out (devilfish with disruption pod = 85pts, making the army 1500)

    What do you think?

i think that that is a great army, yes i would take the devilfish because it will allow you to take quaters faster, and get to mission objectives. its great to see some one not min maxing on suits in my oppinon firewarriors are very powerfull.

I would hard-wire your multi-tracker on your Shas'o and give him a fusion blaster. I would also put your Stealth suits in 2 squads of 3. Its a very solid list and should give anybody a hard time.

---The devilfish is fine, but maybe drop a firewarrior squad instead?
For if one gave, he dared assert
He knew that man was repentant
For many a man is so hard of heart
He cannot weep even though he suffers sorely

Not sure about this. You'd be well served with the four troop choices.
Very solid list, hope you do well

You'll need a target lock on one Broadsides in each team so that they may shoot at seperate targets, take off the multitracker there...gundrone squadrones really aren't that great, in fact waste of points if you ask me I would exchange them for a devilfish transport...i've never been to grateful for Ethereals but if you have plans for 'em go ahead eh...i would go for the extra weapon on the HQ and use hard-wires for your support. For the greater good!

That's is as good a starting list as I have seen, especially as far as each unit configuration is concerned. if you haven't played Tau though I really suggest that you leave the drones and avoid the devilfish for now. I am not a fan of the devilfish, but I don't want to trash it. On the other Tau board I am on most everyone loves drone squads, they are definitely not a waste of points. They can move-shot-move, re-roll misses, have a chance to pin, and deepstrike. All that for 12 points. An argument for them is that most of my opponents get very irritated by them.

I am starting to use ethereals more now. Thoses morale re-rolls have really made a difference. You just need to protect him well. Many add the 2 shield drones and then stick him with one broadside team. That's what I ususally do and he hasn't died yet. 4 shield drones is tough to get through. You can then have a FW squad near as well. I am loathe to suggest making one FW squad smaller, but I think I would reduce one to 6 and unbond so you have 70 points for tweaking. The small squad could stay with your ethereal and broadsides. You can then add shiled drones for the ethereal, add the last gun drone, and add 2 gun drones to your stealth team if you left it at 6.

Again, about target locks vs multitrackers. Multitrackers are the most useful so you can fire both weapon systems. You can't with target lock. If you have target locks you can't fire one broadside and see if it damages. and then decide to fire the other broadside at the same target. You need to designate that they are firing at the same thing or specify the other one is firing at something else. Keep the multitrackers.

Remember, you can move as fast as the devilfish with all of your jump pack units. I think the devilfish will draw more fire.

One squad of 6 or 2 of 3 stealth. Both are good. If 2 squads I would keep them near each other as you really want the concentrated fire. Just my thoughts. See above for thoughts on adding 2 gun drones.
