I wasn't quite sure where to put this, so I guess I'll just stick it in here. I was wanting to know, if there was some resource, wether it be an email adress or some huge encyclopedia, that will give me the information on building my own team. Me and my friend have already made a fairly interesting team with its strenghts and weaknesses, and some concept art and a lot of fluff, but there is one problem. We have no idea how much each of our units cost (points wise). We have no idea where we can find out how much out units will cose. Could anybody direct me to where I could find some way of figuring out how many points my armys will be?
If you're wanting to figure out how many points the army would cost then wouldn't it be obvious to just have a look in the CODEX for whatever army you are using?
What is it you have anyway??? i'm sure if you put down what type of army and what units you have in this forum then i'm sure there is people on here who can give you advice on points and even most optimal ways of organising.
SON'S OF TERRA......... Your defeat, its the emperor's will
No you dont get what I mean (sorry for that misunderstanding, I guess I should have used a better word than "team" ) . Me and my friend are designing my own unique species, entierly new units, vehicles, weapons and heros, not just building an army for an already existing team.

So basically, your making a new codex, Like I am right now with some other members.
And take it from me, I set up the motto: 'Set the foundation nice and sturdy before building the House'.
I made them (I came on after they had 'started') go back and pretty much go over everything they had done so far, it was alot of owrk and after about 5 days of intensive MSN chating (at least 100 pages if copied into word) we have only just started workinf on the army list.
I'm not really sure what youre asking for thought, I mean, when you design your own codex, you pretty much do it from scratch....
We did create everthing nescisary for a proper working army (soooo many waisted high school classes). What our problem is, is that we have no idea how many of our soldiers would be in a 1000 pt game, or a 2000 pts game. We tried a bit of play-testing vs. my tau (we haven't made any models yet, we just used slightly shaped blobs of clay), but no matter what variations we used, one team was clearly the victor. What I need is for some person who is a god when it comes to knowing the rules of 40k to look at and study my "codex" and show us how many points my units, upgrades, heroes, etc should cost.

Well, in that I could help, but if something is too powerful you tone it down or up the coist, plus you have o use more than one army, as some armies are at a natural disadvantage to other.
It happens and thus lots of Playtesting has to occur, you pretty much have to take it to the point where you lose, then keep working working with that set up to see what kind of Win-lose Ration you come up with, then go from there.
That could be a slight problem, because we only have access to 1000 pts tau, 1600 pts SM, and 1000 pts eldar...Originally Posted by MiketehFox
Seems to me like you have a good variety of armies to play test against. If you feel it isn't, then you could probably proxy other armies.1000 pts tau, 1600 pts SM, and 1000 pts eldar...
But really, just keep playtesting and tweaking the army tell you finally get what you want.
Darn, I was hoping for a lazy way to do this... (no playing hours of battles, just reading big charts or something) Oh well!
