I am thiking of starting up on WH40k, but I cant decide what army to pick. I would like to start with an unpopular army, as I have no preference in the different tactics army use (Such as preferring Zerg over Terran in Starcraft.), and as such would like to start with something not normally seen.
Also, anyone know where I can find information on local places to play?
As for the army you want to start, I'm not gonna try to pick it for you, but I will say what the most unpopular army that has an official codex in my area. It seems to be Dark Eldar, here (colorado, USA).First, I'd check to see if there's any GW's around. I'd also check if there's any Hobbytown's around. They usually have a WH40k selection, and gaming area (at least where I live). Also, anyone know where I can find information on local places to play?
If there's neither of those around, then maybe check out some private little hobby shops.
As far as to local areas to play, it would help if we knew where you were.
As far as to armies, it depends, I mean, Playing a DaemonHunter army might not be the most uncoomon, but playing it purely with Grey Knights and no Inquisitorial Storm Troops wopuld be very uncommon, so maybe try telling us what army you like, then we can think of uncoomon ways to play them, as it seems you are here to have fun rather than win (all the time at least.)
Oh I don't mind winning, I just don't have a preference in tactics, etc. I have been looking at Necrons for a long time though, as they have a rather simple army list.
Necrons can be a good solid army. They're simple compared to some of the other armies, and relativley straight forward to play. You just have to watch out for things like phase out, but I won't go into to much detail until you're final on what army you eventually choose to play.
As for how common Necrons are, I think they're pretty common, but not as common as armies like space marines, tyranids, imperial guard, and chaos (which are the most popular armies at my area).
Anyway, you'll probably be happy in the decision you make.
Read around the forums and articles, take a look at the codex's if you have access to them, and check out the models and see what you like. If you had any gaming places near by, you might actually be able to see some games in action to get a better perception of what you want.
withhunters, dark eldar, orks, imperial guard, and daemonhunters all together make up less then 10% of the armies at my store.
dark eldar and orks are probably the least played "official" armies globally. its not so coincedental that niether one of them have had a codex updated in ages.
whatever you do, DONT play space marines. its tempting, they get everything, but youll thank yourself in the end if you dont
chaos are not soo bad, due to daemonic gifts they really play alot differently then regular marines
leave the moderating to the moderators
if pro is the opposite of con, does that mean progress is the opposite of congress?
Eldar are likely to become more popular towards teh end of the year when the new codex and minis come out, currently they are not really a novice army, but that may change with new rules
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Store Finder Link - again it would help to know where you are as Games Workshop stores are not always your best option.
Playing a rare army is very specific to your local club/area. For instance, I play at the Sentry Box in Calgary (and there are 4 or 5 other venues in town which I don't go to) and no one plays WitchHunters, an all Kroot Merc army or Harlequins. Everything else is represented.
War Record Since Sept 2005
Old Codex 48-20-9 Dark Eldar
New Codex 1-0-0 Dark Eldar
in my store no one play DE.
i think at least so yeah i would start them or Witch Hunters
Also on of the less palyed armies (as far as I know), though easy to play and very fun IMAO
is armoured company, the rules can be found here: http://uk.games-workshop.com/imperia...edcompanies/1/
it's an offial army but no real codex has ben brought out like harly's.
Good luck and what ever you choose, I hope you'll have fun with them.
