Ok, here's my point.
Since most councils make use of enhance and fortune, the bigger the council gets, the greater is the effect of these two abilities. Without making it too large and cumbersome of course.
A warlock joining the council is actually a STEAL for 13 points. He has WS 5 and I 5
and has a re-rollable 4+ INV save!!! (even frankie2003 must admit thats good.. )
Since they dont HAVE to buy a power, why not increase the size of the
council to 10 for a mere 65points?
2 Seers (fortune/guide+runes+ccw+sp.)
8 warlocks (augment/augment/enhance+ccw+sp.)
This extremely tough council comes at only 235p!!!
(Witch blades can be added if needed)
Tell me what u think.
I myself prefer a Seer Council with some offensive punch, or that furthers some other CC unit's (like a Wraithlord's) attack capabilities. Mind war instead of Guide for me. If you see a powerfist-wielding squad rushing across the battlefield to intercept a Wraithlord's advance, use Mind War to fry that PF user's brain. If they're in a Tank, say...a Rhino, you use the Bright Lance on your Wraithlord (well...that's what I keep on mine) to pop it, and Mind War them anyway. But yeah, you pointed out a much neglected tactic, which is to take plain Warlocks and give them just 2 points of wargear. However, the Warlock's low strength makes them rather incapable in CC, which is why witch blades are so perfect for them. Wound on a 3+ always? Come on! I think that the Farseer's higher WS should merit them some Witch Blades always. Well...in any game 1000 pts or more, anyways. But yeah...Warlocks are shockingly durable..
Actually, I meant MW, dont know why I wtrote guide. MW rocks, especially when used in the way u mentioned, in conjunction with avatar/WL.
Myself, I usually give the 2 farseers Witch blades which make them wound on a 2+, not 3+ ...
But, for the 1000p army I'm using at the moment, I simply didn't have the points to spare.
I'm not sure whether this is in the correct forum or not but I agree that is a good idea to have a large number of warlocks in the seer council not only becuase they benifit from the enhancements but also due to the fact that in general the warlock is a very good unit for such low points cost and for protecting the farseers who may have had a lot of points spent on them.
Isn't that exactly what I said???
(Read the entire post, not just the beginning...)
I don't think you said this was in the wrong forum and you didn't agree with yourself you also did not mention how it was usefull for protecting expensive farseers, so no it was not exactly what you said. I was only expressing my opinion.
Sry, guess I didn't read YOUR entire post
You are very right about the protection they add to the unit, since losing a 13 p warlock to a lascannon shot isn't really anything to cry about..
