Ok, a brief synopsis. I plan on playing IG and Blood Angels in a few days. Likely it will be 1500 IG + 1500 BA vs 3000 Nids (me). I am allowed to use proxies (friendly game) and this is my first time playing Tyranids. I made an army list, and filled it with gaunts + a few warriors and hive tyrants. Talk about a swarm. I then realized I needed way over 200 models. I pulled out all the models I could find (old orks, my GK, some SM figures, etc) and even if I proxied in some WFB figures I couldn't meet the number of figures I would need for this army. Wow, well, have to try that army after I buy some more figures I guess. Anyway, after reading through the codex, and looking through the fluff I came up with an interesting idea for an army. What caught my eye was the concept of the Lictors & Genestealers plus winged gaunts typically infiltrating and being the first stages of attack on a planet. With that in mind, I produced a less model-intensive army themed on this concept. Do you think it will work?
2 Hive Tyrants w/wings, Lash whips, scything talons, toxin sacs, adrenal (I), and ex carapace
2 units of 4 warriors w/leaping, flesh hooks, adrenal (I), ex carapace, scything talons, rending claws
1 unit of 3 Lictors
6 units of 12 genestealers
3 units of 20 gargoyles
3 carnifexes w/enhanced senses, toxin sacs, adrenal (I), ex carapace, scything talons, barbed strangler
This list is about 19 points over, so I'll have to drop something, maybe 2 gargoyles, but should give a good idea.
That makes a total of only 148 models, which is within my model limit (I can field about 180 models) But, I have maxed out my # of units so have lots of targets to spread out the fire I'll be taking. As well, if infiltrators or deep striking is allowed I have great options for the genestealers and gargoyles. Also, pretty much everything is a high threat (well, maybe not the gargoyles, but hopefully they will get into CC quickly and tie up the enemy for the genestealers to move in)
At this time I have no idea what sort of lists my opponents will have.
Do you think this list will put up a good fight, or is it a lost cause from the beginning? I like the idea/theme of the army (a large vanguard force) but am concerned there isnt enough "expendable meat" to the army.
I thing some biovores is good to add cause is more flexible HS choice than your carnifex's .Bat anyway it sounds good and i realy like that u make your warriors pure cc units.
MEAT IS MURDER
You are a very evil person. Do you really have 72 genestealers? I'd love to see that! But is it really a good idea to play your first fight with so much stuff? You'd be better off playing them one at a time at 1,500 but the list you've got there kicks ass!
I thought about biovores ... but I know in the last game we played my opponents took at least 1 tank each so I was looking at carnifexes for my anti-tank punch. Being a highly CC army, once I get stuck into CC I won't want the mines to land since they will do a lot of damage to my own guys as much as my enemy. So, unless he's got a bunch of units spread around that aren't engaged in CC I wont be able to safely fire them.I thing some biovores is good to add cause is more flexible HS choice than your carnifex's .Bat anyway it sounds good and i realy like that u make your warriors pure cc units.Yeah, 72 genestealers sounds impressive, doesnt it? As far as the large army value, well, this will be only my second game with these guys. There are 2 of them, and they are brothers, and both want to play. We thought about a 3-way free for all (take and hold or something similar, with 1500 each) but they were concerned about unintentionally ganging up on me since we still barely know each other. So, for the first few games we are playing the 2 of them vs me.You are a very evil person. Do you really have 72 genestealers? I'd love to see that! Hmm u have right so ,go with some zoanthope cause i thing ur carn's will be under heavy attack soon so is good to add some more flexible HS cause when u run out of HS units u get troubles , my opinion.
MEAT IS MURDER
um, first of all, i thin kthat carnifexes are 0-1 secondly i think you should drop the units of gargoyles, they are horrible, they get 12 inch move, so great, too bad all they have are 12 inch range str of creature wepons and implant attack. play, if they go of diffacult terrian, boom - DEAD. replace them with some zoanthropes and biovores, mabye some raveners
Quote of the week: "dude, for a whole hour, i would fall asleep!"
He's not playing a Seeding Swarm, so he can take 3 Carnifexes. Though I would have at least one of them with a VCannon instead of the BStrangler, just for long-range tank-pinging.
I would stick with the Gargs, if they can Deep Strike they can get close to enemy vehicles and take them out from the rear. Or divert weapons fire from other creatures, or tie up some enemy squads, or... For the theme, I think they fit and are very functional.
Like Gaunts in general, they're not intended to shoot the enemy to death.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
