If i were to play 40k.. which army should i play with?
No one can tell you which army to play. There is no "best" army, if there was we would all be playing it (shut up SMurf players.)
Check out the Newbie guides forum.
But it all comes down to which army you identify with, or you think looks the coolest. I play Guard beacause I like the idea of the common soldier putting up a brave fight even in the face of certain death. I love tanks too.
Since then I've collected Dark Angels and Tau too, purely because the DA are dodgy and aren't quite as perfect as their bluer cousins. Tau just look gorgeous to me.
Its really up to you......so I guess this thread is a bit pointless really. Give us some info on what you like and maybe then we can be more specific.
i know there is not "best" army. i just wanted people to tell me which army they like the best and whats so great about it. usualy people think that their army is the best
Space Marines... Balanced, Great Fluff, Powerful if used correctly
Nami kotogotoku, waga tate to nare. Ikazuchi kotogotoku, waga yaiba to nare.
Thousand Sons or Speed Freeks  . No doubt about it.
Play Chaos. You know you want to. The modelling opportunities, the insane army potential. Chaos is simply endless. You can have a vanilla reliant force, or a force which is unorthodox, experimental and unpredictable.
You can have mutants who blow themselves up, or Lords capable of smashing armies singlehandedly.
There is no better fluff than Chaos.
The only limits are yourself.

Here's the thing - nobody can truely make up your mind for you. If you want an army that you'll come to enjoy and love, then you need to make the decision for yourself. Examine the models, the fluff, and the play style and find the armies that fit your style. Take those armies and do some research on just them and narrow it down even further. At some point you'll find yourself looking into one army more than the others. That's usually the army you should invest into.
Threads like these however don't accomplish much. Typically they end up with people bad mouthing particular armies. In the end however it's all a matter of opinion, and you should form your own opinion rather than have someone tell you what you should think.
Perhaps if you were to mention what you were looking for in an army, we would be more apt to help you. For instance, do you want large amounts of conversion and modeling opportunities? Do you prefer shooting armies over close combat? Things like that. Try to give us some direction and we can usually point you in the right direction.
Well as already mentioned I wont bad mouth anyone.
I play the following
Space Marines 2500pts
Tau about 1500pts
Necron 100pts (for now anyway)
I used to love the space marines when i first got into the hobby the just looked so awsome and had so many army options. Plus they are like the hardest individual models in the game.
Tau, I collected tau when they first came out cause i like the way the firewarriors look, and i ended up playing mech tau cause of the tactics. I love the fighting fish.
And now to Necrons. They are my favorite, their models look excellent, and are very clean. They have powerful units. And have the ability to regenerate or reanimate their fallen. Plus they have what could be considered the best tank in the game. Plus I like their fluff since it goes all the way back to the "BEGINING"
