Just a question as to why everyone is so against Monoliths?? Just to Clarify, i have never played with Necrons and the army in general doesn't appeal to me so i will never play them. But i'm hearing alot of complaints from "players" that don't like Monoliths, personally i can't see it being any worse than a Land Raider (don't bother quoting rules benifits for the Monolith, i know what they are) even taking that into consideration, all thats really needed is to immobilise it then you've removed any mobility their army had. One large template weapon per turn after that isn't really gunna make much difference, that assuming he chooses not to teleport if he does you can block it, denying him WBB rolls and teleporting, personally i've never had to much in the way of problems regarding Monoliths on the other hand there has been battles where i can't scratch them but this has also happened with Land Raiders (Machine Spirits anyone??) even bloody Rhino's (self repair on a 6..... oh please, for that point value...) So is there any really stand out reasons why everyone dislikes it so much?
It really is difficult to take down, you know, and it can cause a fair amount of damage while also making the Necron units a lot more survivable, if the Necron player is using it correctly..
Of course, I don't mind the Monolith so much. That's over 200 points that the Necron player didn't throw into more Necron units, making Phase Out much easier to achieve, especially if they don't know how to use the thing.
If used correctly, though, it can be as devestating as other things, and you'll find that many players who truly, deeply, hate the Monolith also hate the Land Raider(s).
Thats true, but i've yet to see a Marine player (or inquisitor for that matter) refuse to take one if it offers an advantage over their opponent. That aside its pretty much the only vehicle/transport/ordiance they have, i think with out it you can just pound on them with out fear. I mean i like to win, but an easy beat is never any fun at all.If used correctly, though, it can be as devestating as other things, and you'll find that many players who truly, deeply, hate the Monolith also hate the Land Raider(s).
Amen to Ryiax! And if you think players hate you when you use monoliths to beat them, just wait till u turn up for a game with The Deceiver and a 'Lith - AND WIN!!! *beams with pride*
The four shall take their place amongst the stars,
Their legions ascendant, unstoppable as the night
A deadly shroud shall fall across the spirit
And the galaxy shall mourn.
HAHA! I laugh at your Deciver and your MonolithThe Deceiver and a 'Lith - AND WIN!!! *beams with pride*

I think the earliest trun i have killed the Deciver was in turn 2 The earliest i have popped a 'Lith was in turn one Then i faced both together and "chewed then up and spat them out!! haha" (What actually happened was i got annihilated because this opposition knew how to play them).
I'm happy to say that he is now a regular opponent and nearly every single battle against him is a tight one its so far about 4-2 in his favour but that will change in a few weeks It will be 4-3 i have changed tactics on him with new units no more teleporting out of combat for him cos they will all be dead!!
So all we have to do is immobilize it and then it's easier to deal with? Do you realize that approximately 1 in 72 brightlance shots will accomplish that aim? If you count destroyed results 1 in 36 bright lance shots (approximately, if on wraithlords, raise it a bit). The darkkin are even worse off, I don't think we (I also play dark eldar) have a gun that's stronger than strength 8 in our whole army.Originally Posted by Ryiax
And no, for the most part, Eldar and our Dark cousins will chew up and spit out a land raider.
Everything I have told you, even this, is a lie.
True its nigh on impossible for BL or DL shots to disable a 'Lith, but i also play Dark Eldar and when I can tailor my army to annihilate T4/3+ (Marines, Necrons, Some Chaos and T3-Sisters) I wouldn't even bother about the 'Lith. They have limited mobility anyway even with the 'Lith in turn 2-3 you can be on them with out to many casualties and once you HTH its over for them, so if you can't kill it, ignore it. As for the Eldar same thing, ignore it go with Star Cannons and hit the troops, phase out, instead of trying to blow everything up

dark elder are the worst matchup for necrons but other than that monoliths are complete cheese they have the most health and they freaking give a unit another chance of popping back every turn absolutely worth the points even though its a point drainer - still worth it
I don't think thats the case at all, DE are designed to rip apart 3+ armies, The squads are the delivery system for the Squad leader and they tear up, same as bikes they are awesome against Marines and Necrons, the worst match up for DE is 'Nids they out number you and are better at HTH combat. Point drainer it is but still its the only vehicle they have they are sitting ducks without it.dark elder are the worst matchup for necrons
what i meant by de r worst matchup for necrons is that de kill necron lol
