I think it would b interesting to see what you guys think is the best overall army for the price and of course the effectiveness of that army on the battle field. I you want you can list the points and numbers of the ideal army (price and quality).
Space Marines..they're cheap..easy to use..and relatively well rounded
120 Guardian List with Conceal Warlocks and 2 Farseers casting Fortune on front 2 squads. Nobody ever beat my friends except for my 120 Warrior list(DE) simply due to the BS and I, + 24" range.
You're gonna spend $250 on one of the most tactically sound armies in the game. Add a squadron of Bright Lance wielding Vipers, and it's money well spent. Granted any close combat army has fun with them, but that lovely fortune really kills effectiveness of non-power weapon wielding armies, cause the 5+ and then a re-roll really kills em. +if they get to shoot, kiss the squad they'e shooting at goodbye. 40 shots with reroll(Guide) and they're like a bolter...yeah.. But most Armies will cost around 500, this is about 300, plus it survives. After a squad gets into close combat, just move the rest of the army around it and take the objective, casting fortune the whole time, and you'll win. (No one else thinks so, but my friend stomped them all, they can't deny that)
Either that or Necrons. Resilient little guys. Or Grey Knights, 8 Points a Dollar(Grey Knight Box), or normal marines, 7 Points a dollar(tactical)
