Do you ever get bored playing and building your troops? I started the game back in September and I'm already starting to get less than enthused. When I first began it was always exciting coming up with new army lists and playing friends. Now, I feel like I have a solid grasp of what my army has to offer and I know how to correctly play against my two most common opponents.
It almost feels like I've wasted so much money and time on this hobby the past 4 months now that I am finding other avenues of entertainment. Do you ever experience this? Is it just a lull? I was really expecting for this hobby to keep me fully entertained for years... I guess I could buy a new army but I'm not even finished with my current one and they are so darn expensive!
So, am I alone or does this happen to you? I collect to play not to paint and model.. so... suggestions?
perhaps go join a local club and find new opponents, play in tournaments.
personally, i have 4x ~1000 point armies, so that friends who are semi keen can play. they aren'y all painted, but the army isn't expanded till all the troops are.
if you're not enthusiastic about the game, don't fob it off, come back when you are. you'll appreciate it more then, and find the game more rewarding.
When you get right down to it, dont forget that this hobby is just that: a hobby! For some people it really becomes a lifestyle, but honestly, those people scare me a little.
So yeah, go out and do other stuff. Warhammer will still be there when/if you feel like getting back into it.
I actually had a 10 year break from the hobby. It was a little wierd jumping from early 2nd edition 40k to 4th ed, but hey, was well worth coming back for me.
My advice would be to maybe step back a little. Not neccessarily completely, but maybe you shouldn't buy anything for a while, or maybe try your hand at painting or converting what you already have. I mean, you say you collect to play, not paint or model, but you might surprise yourself. Admittedly, for me, these two aspects of gaming really add to the general enjoyment - without them, my Skitarii army would be nowhere!
Just advice, mind you, its really up to you where you go from here. Hope you make the right decision!

Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
The only time I get bored is if I play the same opponent over and over again (My Bro), or I have a ton of minis to paint.
But I can't get enough of putting the minis together, that's my favorite aspect.
I have to agree with you that Painting and modeling are somethings tedious but like the other fellas said it's well worth it when you see a completely painted army on the battle field. I am not saying you need to be an awesome painter or anything but when i first saw my nids all painted it was very very rewarding.
As for taking a break it's always worth taking a break, I find that taking a break makes me think more and more about 40K and heck I just took off a year or so and now I am painting and enjoying it.
It just seems like a waste to buy all these models and then never use them again don't it?
