I am kind of new to Warhammer! I tried to get into it a few months back but never really got round to it due to finding it hard to pick an army!
So here i want you all to spill your favorite armies aspects. Why you like them, whats good about them and what drew you to them e.t.c.
You need to do a good job though because it takes alot to make me stick with one army!
Thanks alot everyone! Hopefully you have what it takes to draw me in!
I have done exactly the same thread but for regular Warhammer, hopefully i get help for both and i will be playing before long!
For starters, I think the best way (and this is for real) to pick your army is just look at them and pick the one you think looks the coolest. My first army was Tau, and everyone I talked to said I had made a big mistake. They're going to be hard to play, they can't assault, yada yada. Get a nice Space Marine force; Space Wolves, Ultramines, something like that. And I'm really glad I didn't listen to that, because now I'm hardcore Tau fan. All because the Tau reminded me of Robotech. I can't stand assaulting. I like blowing tanks to bits from the other side of the board and loading down enemy units with a crap load of high-strength shots. That being said, I'll give you a little description of the Tau as I see them. First off, don't pick Tau if you like a lot of of assaulting. Don't pick them if you like a moderate amount of assaulting. The forces they have that can claim any CC prowess are by no means specialized for it. Kroot and Vespid are really just compliments to a force that shoots and moves. Farsight is for battlesuit fanatics (Althought Farsight is pretty hard in CC) and even then, he's the only real unit that gets fantastic CC capabilities. Now, if you do pick Tau, get used to shooting whatever you want, wherever it is. Really. High ranges and markerlights make the shooting phase YOUR phase. You can degrade your enemy's stats (or upgrade your own) with markerlights well enough to almost guarantee a few kills or at least some pinning. And if that doesn't work, give em' a no-line-of-sight-needed Seeker Missile. Second, there's plenty of ways to play Tau. Draw the line, no step back folks can play Static Tau. Fans of Muhammad Ali can play Mech.Tau. And there's plenty of Hybrid forces out there that are somewhere in between. Anyways, that's my view. Just pick Orks if you think they look awesome.
I play Chaos because of the huge variety of fluff you can come up with before sounding cliche. It also is a very strong list, and can be oriented pretty much however you want to play- though a war of attrition is not advised, and in stark contrast to the Tau, an assault loving force is.
My advice when you actually find an army you like, write out a list to the most common points level in your gaming area, and collect to it. This will save you a lot of money (i.e. buying too many IG officers with a powerfist). Then you can buy the fun stuff.
